is it really that high? 90%? thought there would be alot of owners wanting to be next to its side.

I just did this a month ago and we decided to stay with him so he wouldn’t be alone and we could comfort him but damn that was hard to watch

Meh.

Animals being put down aren't usually frantic.

I've worked at a vet. Most people want to be with their animal when we give the shot

I don't know how you couldn't be in the room. If for no other reason than to be there for your dog. You owe it to them to be there at the end.

Last pet I had put down was when I was in high school and I held my dog while they injected him and he went to sleep.

I'll do the same with the pets I have now when it's their time.

Had to put down wife’s Yorkie 2 days ago. Lung disease. Mouth disease, skin disease, windpipe infections from the mouth diseases/infections. He was 15 years old. I had to talk her into it because his quality of life was just not what it needed to be

She took it really hard. Kids were crying. Kids (8 and 6) got to say goodbye to him but took them out of the room for it to be done. Wife was in there with him when it was time. It was a rough day. My heart was broken for her.

A week ago tomorrow I was there with my lab. I held him and whispered to him as the vet sedated him, then gave the injection.

His being a part of my life was the only good thing about some days, and the only thing that got me through other days. This has been a tough week without him. It's the first of many.

I’ve had two pets that I’ve had to take to be put down and I stayed with both. One was our twelve year old Rottie that I held when she took her last breath, and a cat that I petted as she looked at me while on the table. Both very hard to do but I was glad that I was with them. Kids and wife said their goodbyes beforehand but were not in the room. That would have been too much for the youngsters.

That is very sad. As painful as it would be, I would want to pet and comfort my pets until the end. I don't think I could live with myself just leaving a pet to die alone with a stranger. In the family I grew up in, we made "humans" out of our pet dogs and cats. They were like family to us, and it was pretty traumatic for us when they died.

Thanks. Now I feel like shite. I loved that cat, but I couldn't have them female vets watching me bawl. Of course, that could have gotten me another pussy. Oh well...

The wife and I are in that 90%. Told the Vet to put her down and we would come pick up the ashes. Have them in a box in our den, but we were not going to be there when she went down. Loved the dog, but didn't want to watch her die even though it was time.

Now I regret not being with my cat when he was put down. Found him when I was 3 and he was my best friend for 15 years. I still get teary eyed when I think about him.

Not sure what services are available locally for everyone, but there are vets that will come to your house for this. We've used it before and would again.

Your animal can be laying in their own bed, in their own home, while you pet and comfort them. Minimizes stress on the animal. Much better than bringing them to the vet and putting them on a cold metal table.
