Why would the dog be "frantic" in every one of these cases?

frick this thread. We have never put one of our pets down. When I have an animal tell me that they would rather die than be in pain, on that day, I will put them down and be by their side. Until then, I assume that an animal would rather live in pain than die, as that is my own personal stance, and also wild animals don't commit suicide.

My 14 year old terrier is now blind and deaf. All she does is walk to the food bowl then back to bed. I have to take out to do her business. Really unsure of what to do for her.

Lame, I've always been there for my pets. Go out cuddled. Sure you get peed on but it's not about you.

I’ve had to put a cat and a dog down. My wife was in tears with the cat and couldn’t be in there. A few years later she had to take the dog in alone. Found it barely moving in the backyard and it had some back issues. She stayed while the dog got the shot but left before they finished everything up. I went by that night on my way home and they had wrapped her up in some paper and I buried her in the backyard next to our other dog and cat.

It can be emotional but way easier and better than finding a rotting carcass in your yard. Happened with our cat. Thought he went missing and a few weeks later I’m cutting the grass. His head and tail were the only things that were recognizable. Had to stop mowing and bury his remains. Our other dog crawled up underneath our deck and died. Had to get under there and get him out. Rigor mortis had set in and he was curled up. I have to think a shot and going to sleep is easier than suffering.

My dog died in my lap while having a seizure this summer. She was scheduled to get put down the next day

frantically looking around? I've had several pets put down and the vet first injects a muscle relaxer so the animal is basically comatose when the other injection happens. But, I can't imagine not being with my pet in it's final moments.

I will be facing this situation very soon with my 14 year old Golden and there is no way in hell I will not be there with her at the end, feeding her peanut butter and chicken to her heart's content.

It wasn't about you or what you wanted. You failed your pet at its dying hour. Literally.

i'll be there with my dogs when they're put down, but i'll cry like a little bitch and be proud of it.

I did it Saturday and my daughter held his back and my wife and I rubbed his head. He went peacefully while we cried like girls. My wife initially was inside and we were outside but she couldn't stomach not being there for him as he passed. So she came outside and was there. I'm proud of her for that. That's a huge deal.

The vet is a personal friend and she came over. And she didn't charge me anything.
