METAIRIE, La. -- Smoothie King, a Louisiana company for almost 45 years, was coaxed with up to $2.4 million in taxpayer funds to drop its plans to move to Dallas in 2012 and stay in the state for at least five years.

But now, with Smoothie King’s commitment to stay in Metairie expiring at the end of December, CEO Wan Kim, the South Korean businessman who owned more than 100 Smoothie King franchises in his home country before coming to New Orleans to purchase the fruit-drink maker in 2012, is reportedly looking once again to move Smoothie King’s global headquarters to Texas.

Good thing we got that 2,000 job tech company. Maybe they can take the naming right for the Arena.

Real estate sources say Smoothie King Franchises, a subsidiary of SK USA Inc., plans to move its corporate operations into roughly 20,000 square feet of office space on the ground floor within the soon-to-be completed Signet Jewelers building adjacent to The Sound at Cypress Waters. The building is slated for completion in March.

Sources say Smoothie King is moving forward with plans to build out the space to the company's specifications.

He didn't know about the rumblings behind Smoothie King's real estate search, but he said he wouldn't be surprised, especially considering Jamba Juice's move earlier this year from California to Frisco.

But the deal between the state and Smoothie King acknowledged that the company should be compensated for extra costs for flying to Asia from a non-hub airport in New Orleans. Dallas’ airport is a hub with direct flights to Asia.

I should be mad but when multiple businesses continue to do it then it’s obviously Louisiana and not the company.

The food service industry seems to be clustered in Dallas. But then again I think of companies like Cracker Barrel that seem to do just fine in rural TN.

There's always at least one or two guys on the flight from Dallas to New Orleans wearing Smoothie King gear.

At least we've still got Cane's. Dallas can never take that from us, right?
