Sitting at a big family event (Thanksgiving and/or Christmas) and hearing my uncles tell stories that had me captivated for hours.

And in high school I would ride over to my aunt and uncles and hunt during dove season. Cleaning them and being back home in time for supper and studying.

Had the whole world and didn’t even realize it. Those October afternoons when it would get a little cooler in south Alabama and those sunsets over peanut fields with the dove coming in six or so at a time.

Edited to add: I would have my shotgun in my car at school and would leave there and go straight to the field. And nobody thought anything about it.

Playing stickball games as a teen and hearing the thunderous echo from the schoolyard as the sponge ball slammed at the wall's strike zone.

Looked kinda like this:

I miss just having a weekend with no plans and the ability to do whatever I want. I don't have any plans this weekend, but I can't jist do what I want.

Lifeguard at the country club the summer after graduation but before leaving for UGA. Sitting in the chair and spinning the whistle…flirting with the women and judging splashes for the kids.

Greatest 3 months ever.

I was on the yearbook staff in HS. I convinced the admin we needed a darkroom to process our film and prints. Me and my buddy would lock the darkroom door and we just frick off for an hour. We may have or not invited some girls in there as well. i worked for the Cooperative Extensive Service at LSU. Same thing. Come into work hungover and just go into the darkroom to sleep. No one would bother you in there. I still got my work done but definitely took advantage of my autonomous setup.

Now everything is digital. No need for dark rooms anymore.

Being an E4 (SrA/Buck Sgt), was great. Not much is expected of you, and you don't have to do as much of the grunt work of an E2/E3.

Silly, but I had a great sense of balance from martial arts and other activities. Used to walk on top of things like fences or other structures to keep my edge. There was a stairway up the hill from old Graham to Pentagon with a hand rail that people often used because it was so steep. I laughed and walked the hand rail up and down the hill - because I could.
A girl saw me doing it saying, "look at the AH. Hope he falls and breaks his neck."
She is across the table from me now. :)

I bartended at a college bar from 1985-89, four nights a week. I have acquired some other skills since then but I was a great fricking bartender. When you get in a rhythm it was like dancing. We cranked out the drinks like a sewing machine all the while doing shots, smoking cigs, getting high in the walk-in and working the yat chicks. It was glorious

I’ll never bartend again and now I don’t think I could even do it. Like a another life I had

Damn baw, that hit hard. My youngest is 5 and the girl is 10, I’ve got some years left holding hands, but man, that hurt my heart. You’ll have grandkids to make up for that one day

What do you want to do?

If you had no demands and societal pressures, what would you do?

Do it.
