So that was nice.
I've already given out the post of the day award, so you're a little late. Do this well tomorrow though and it's yours.
Upvote with godspeed.

Wait ? There was racism in the Deep South 60 years ago ? Wow, that’s crazy. And new. Let’s flagellate ourselves about it for another 60 years and then reassess.

I was going to say...this might be the opportunity to demolish Middleton and return the quad to its original, intended design.

I agree. I understand the time and am not surprised by it, but it definitely is sad to read.

Why the surprise?
i didn't say anything about being surprised...

oh, i'm aware of that.... i'm saying, that as we look at it now, it's just sad that people had that ideology, and that people had to go through that.... it's just sad to think, that at any point, of how misinformed, misguided, and disgusting our actions and thoughts used to be... and sadly, it still, in very small part, continues today... it's just sad...

c'mon bro... no one is saying that... at least i'm not... but, honestly, reading that letter, does it not upset or sadden you, in some way, just personally?

Yes, but that's not what he is saying. He is saying that reading it today and thinking about the mindset then.
It is crazy to read it and think that was how things were.. And it really wasn't THAT long a
Some of you guys don’t really understand what it was like in this country. You might say folks were crazy, but that was the law in state after state.
What is amazing is just how far we’ve come getting away from Jim Crow.

i do think he was exaggerating about the pool thing, though. no way they were clamoring to get in the pool.

It’s amazing that with all of the other improvements on campus that Middleton is still standing as is.
Maybe he didn't find anything, maybe someone gave him this gift to get the ball rolling on a new 48 million dollar library.

Cruelty and ignorance always saddens me. 10,000 things a day sadden me. 80% of blacks living without a Dad saddens me. Baton Rouge being a shooting gallery saddens me . Huge swaths of our city descending into violent madness saddens me . Our government schools collapsing saddens me. The unbelievable decline of American culture saddens me..
When we focus on the historical behavior of OTHERS rather than PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY today we are perpetuating the problem.

Good, then we can tear down the Lincoln
Memorial next
And we can start shutting down planned parenthood clinics too...since we’re going to be judging people from the past based on post-modern social mores

not at all. the 1961 team was 10-1 and finished 3rd in the country. probably could have gotten over the hump if we had at least a few black dudes on the defensive line.

There were a lot of Grambling teams that would have killed LSU back in the day, so yeah.. If there wasn't segregation, LSU might have had 2 or 3 more national titles. I know its history and that's how it was, but it is crazy to think thats how things use to be,

i agree, but at the same time, you have to know where you came from to know where you are heading... i'm just saying, it's not a bad thing to look at something from history, that was clearly wrong and bad, and use it as a reference point for changing the behavior for the future.... but to your argument, it does take personal responsibility for that change to occur.... words without action are fruitless...
