If this is accurate, it should be a national controversy. But we all know it won’t be.
It should be at or near the top of every story written: why wasn't he already in prison? We care SO MUCH about school shootings, but when we have one and the perp is black, he gets probation. I'm sure that was quite the deterrent.

Exactly.

Progressives go hard in the paint when guns are used to commit an atrocity, but the true way to stop gun crimes would be to have harsh penalties for any crime committed with a firearm.

This man shot a gun illegally near a school.

He should have gone to prison for 25 years.

From the New York Times
Mr. Jackson is the current husband of Elkins' Mother. He called them Easter.

quote:

Mr. Elkins told them through tears that he wanted to take his own life. He told Mr. Jackson that his wife wanted a divorce, and that he was drowning in “dark thoughts.”

“I told him, ‘You can beat stuff, man. I don’t care what you’re going through, you can beat it,’” Mr. Jackson said. “Then I remember him telling me: ‘Some people don’t come back from their demons.’”

And this fills out some of Elkins' childhood.also from the NYT

quote:

Ms. Elkins said she did not know exactly what problems her son was having with his wife. Records show that they were married in 2024. She added that her son worked for UPS and had served in the Army.

quote:

Ms. Elkins said she was not extremely close with her son. She had Mr. Elkins when she was a teenager and struggling with a crack cocaine addiction, so she left him to be raised by a family friend, Betty Walker.

People knew Mrs. Walker's connection to the children
quote:

Ms. Walker, ... said in an interview that Mr. Elkins shot his wife several times, including in the head and in the stomach.

Seriously some revised version of institutionalization needs to be brought back. I work in mental healthcare and I think it's necessary even though my opinion would probably be frowned upon by many. The problem is the same issues that occurred in the past (ie overcrowding, abuse, unjustified involuntary commitments etc) would most likely happen again. Also, it's very difficult to find people that actually want to do that work and have the capability to work in intense inpatient settings.

Progressives don't want someone like THIS man going to prison for something like that. Now, had he been a white christian? Absolutely. Throw him under the jail then throw away the key. No trial needed.

Could his Mother's having been addicted to crack while carrying him ...could that have messed up his genes and contributed to his mental instability?

I never said it wasn’t. But the guy isn’t a kid, and you would’ve known that had you read the article

I looked up the 2 charges. The one he got probation for has a max sentence of 2 years for first offense. The second that was dropped could have been 5 years at hard labor.

Had he been maxed out on sentencing, he only just now would have been getting out of prison - and would not have even had the chance to father all of these poor children that he murdered.

How is it even possible for a father to kill his children?

IMO, there’s got to be a correlation in the community to fetal abuse and all of the mental health issues we see.
Why else would all the D run cities insist on mental health cops?

I believe that 'Good Behavior' is 3 days credit for every day served.

Back in 2021, we had an upstanding citizen break into our store along with 17 other stores over the course of 3-4 days. This was not his first time in court for similar reasons His final sentence was 8 years with credit for time served (14 charges of Simple Burglary in 2020, 4 in 2017. 1 in 2016, 6 in 2014, and that's just the Simple Burglary charges). He was shot & killed in January this year, and one news station published an article about his 'lengthy criminal history' and they were bombarded with angry comments about how that shouldn't matter because some family just lost a son, etc. My only thought was 'if he was still in prison for 18 counts of burglary, he'd still be alive.'

Absolutely. Also any sort of trauma or abuse he experienced growing up (assuming that occurred) would have contributed as well.

So basically the guy was scheduled to go to divorce court in a few days, momma probably said he wasn't gonna get to have the kids and pay a shitload of child support, so in his mind, he saw his life as 'over' and probably thought if he couldn't have the kids, nobody could.

Super selfish and disgusting. Hope that guy rots in hell

This two legged excuse for a man did it with execution style single shots to the back of their heads according to a police report.

Not to derail the thread, but this is true of Goode that was killed by ICE in Minneapolis. If they had arrested him for the felonies he committed several weeks earlier (also on video) and prosecuted him fully (years in federal prison) it seems very likely he would still be alive.

Every new thing I read about this makes it even more sad. I mean no matter how he killed them it would have been bad but this guy was just cold blooded.
