Shreveport Police addresses strip club offering car washes and $5 admission to officers

The Shreveport Police Department says it’s aware of pictures circulating on social media involving SPD cars being washed at a carwash hosted by a local strip club.

The department says it wants to be clear: “This is not the image we want representing our department.”

Officials with the department released a statement Wednesday, July 23 after Larry Flynt’s Hustler Club posted on Facebook Saturday, July 19. The club’s post showed several women washing an SPD unit.

The post reads as follows:

“As a token of our appreciation, ALL Police Officers receive $5 admission EVERYDAY at Larry Flynt’s Hustler Club Shreveport! ???????

When you’re off duty or just taking a break, we’ve got your back. Come enjoy the night with us, and let us show you some love for all you do!

Officers in uniform will receive a complimentary non alcoholic beverage.

“Our officers are held to a high standard, both on and off duty. We expect every member of this department to exercise sound judgment and uphold the values that foster public trust. While we support community engagement and charitable efforts, the setting and optics of this particular event are not in line with the professionalism we strive to maintain. We have identified the officers involved in this incident, and behavior such as this will be addressed,” SPD said in a statement released Wednesday.

Mayor Tom Arceneaux’s office also released a statement Wednesday, saying the city fully supports Chief Wayne Smith and SPD leadership as they respond to the photos.

“The professionalism of our police department is paramount to building and maintaining public trust,” said Mayor Arceneaux. “We support Chief Smith in his efforts to hold officers accountable and take appropriate disciplinary action when behavior does not reflect the standards of the department or the expectations of our community.”

“This incident does not reflect the culture of SPD, the vast majority of officers who serve this city honorably every day, or the City of Shreveport,” added Mayor Arceneaux. “We are addressing this matter seriously, and we remain focused on building a department that earns the trust and respect of every Shreveport resident.”

On Tuesday, the club posted something similar, offering a discount to Shreveport firefighters and EMS personnel. This time however, the post included a cartoon drawing rather than actual photos.
