Of all things -- might *this* op be a trauma too far for too many? (especially for already-fragile Millenials and Gen Z?)

There’s a difference between the internet and social media.

One is more of an evil than the other.

Remember the internet circa 1996 to about 2010?
It was the wild, frickin west!
Google/Twitter/Facebook/Apple hadnt yet become the privatized face of Big Brother.

Mobs of apoplectic grown up children didnt harass and attack everyone who said something that wasn't in lockstep with their petty ideology.

You could mention something verbally without a related ad popping up on your phone a few minutes later.

Man, it was great.

The Unabomber says, “hi, remember me?” His methods were deranged and unacceptable, but his manifesto was not as far off as everyone once thought.

"Don't be fooled by the internet.

It's cool. It's cool to get on the computer, but don't let the computer get on you.

Its cool to use the computer. Don't let the computer use you.

Y'all saw the Matrix. There's a war going on the battlefields in the mind.

And the prize is the soul.
So, let's be careful. Thank you. "- Prince

you make a great point. I've often thought the internet was better ebfore social media existed, like pre-2005ish, but I think the even bigger point is the 24/7 access via phones. Even if tiktok and twitter and all that other shite existed exactly as it currently does but everyone had early 2000s era flip phones with no internet access, I htink everyone would be a lot better off. People would be a whole lot less likely to be shitty to each other if they had to actaully go home and boot up the computer to do it instead of pulling it out of their pocket and taking 5 seconds wherever they are at the time.

I won’t be missing much, I love printed books and libraries, I don’t watch TV or streaming, I own maybe 6 DVDs, but my player broke years ago. My music source is a mix of vinyl and CDs, or the radio. The only issue is that Tiger dropping's, and a couple of other sites have replaced my going to the library 3 times a week to read newspapers, will take some adjusting to go back to that.

Remember the internet in the 70’s - 80’s? Kids today will never know what it was like to stay outside until the street lights came on.

Fact.

I grew up in the 80’s. I’d welcome a global EMP to get rid of all this shite. Life was better.
