I think they should build Mike a bridge from his enclosure into the stadium. A cat walk if you will, let him decide.

People post on this board almost weekly about their dog and how much they love them, etc., yet when it comes to Mike, no one has any regard for his feelings.
Call me a pussy, but I tend to agree that if Mike does actually hate being in the stadium and it causes him immense stress, just leave him alone.

In fact, here is what Arkansas does. Maybe I'm wrong, but I see an animal in a cage, on a trailer, hooked up to a truck, to be brought into the stadium.

Are they? It entails the tiger walking into a cage and the truck literally crossing the street. That's it. I would propose letting an eagle soar around the stadium hoping he lands at the proper spot, or kids running full speed to keep up with a charging buffalo on the field is a bit more "tedious" than having a tiger just lay in a cage while a truck slowly makes a lap around the stadium.

Had you ever seen the difficulty Dr Baker would have on occasion when Mike IV or Mike V didn't want to get into his trailer? And Mike VI REALLY didn't like leaving his domicile for that mobile contraption! Yeah, there's a wee bit more to it than simply putting Mike in a cage with wheels and then towing home over to the stadium behind a truck. Ask any of the former vet-med students that took part in getting Mike to the stadium. There was a whole lot more to it than what you may have been led to believe.

It’s not necessary and will hurt more than it’ll help. If there’s even a chance that it could stress the animal, it’s not worth it. The biggest argument in favor of keeping a live tiger on campus (which I agree with) is conservation. When you start parading him around a crowded stadium against doctor’s orders, it stops looking like conservation and starts looking like an easier target for activists. I’d like to keep a tiger on campus and not add unnecessary drama that could put that tradition at risk.

No one is saying LSU should beat the hell out of the tiger to get it to go into the trailer. But flying around a stadium with 80k people, or sprinting across the football field is not a natural action of a live animal either. It's a behavior a captive animal is trained to do. Tigers are capable of being trained to get into trailer.
There are other live mascots that do considerably more than what Mike (used to do). Some run or fly on to the field. Others are kept at the stadium for the entirety of the game. All LSU ever did was make a slow lap around the field and park the cage next to the opponent's entrance. Right after that Mike taken back to his cage. In terms of stress, that is considerably less than what other schools place on their mascots

Crowds and being cooped up really stress Tigers. However, they do long for one on one contact.....you know, intimate dinners and such.

The he must really hate the thousands of people that crowd around his enclosure all day long on gameday...or the rock concerts that take place 100 feet from his cage on gameday....or the hundreds, maybe thousands or people who crowd right out in front of his enclosure to loudly cheer the LSU band as it comes loudly playing right by him on their way into the stadium.
Some act like the tiger would be being plucked from a serene quite jungle on gameday and thrust in front of a cheering crowd. Nothing could be further from the truth. He's encountering thousands of people and noise ALL DAY on gameday.

I’m ambivalent. I’ve read that the trainers have trouble getting Mike into the cage and that he doesn’t enjoy the experience.
Frankly, it’s not that interesting bc the cage almost totally blocks the view of Mike. Can’t hardly see him anyway.

It’s be too expensive, but I would like to see a tiger walk over from his home to a little mini-home at the top of the north end zone with secure glassed front towards the field, sound proofed or dampened if needed, and closed in with AC where he can hang out for a little while at start and then allowed to come and go as he pleases (maybe give him a reward if/when he does come back during games). Let him have his own little viewing palace at the stadium. That’s not asking for too much…
In general I don’t have a problem with bringing him into stadium and onto the field for pregame, but the entire game seems a little much. Anything would probably work better with Mikes when they are younger.
