Exactly.

If someone is bad at managing money a new job making a lot of money will not solve their issues.

Even Colorado hasn't become better off with their new income.

It is more about freedom than money. Behavoiral laws don't work and never will. Don't steal and don't harm another person.

Louisiana does not have a revenue generation problem it has a spending problem. If you give the legislature and the Governor more money they will spend more money on bullshite programs and we'll still be in the hole. Fix the spending problem.

Nah, the 3 tier brewer, distributor, seller model is outdated and needs to be deregulated massively.

Who's actually going to put in the effort to grow and maintain their plants when you can buy a tube of cookies at the dispensary down the road?

Yep legalize it, regulate the sale of it, and tax it at 20%-25%.

I think people fear that legalization and the ease of new products on the market in a new state would make it easier for kids to get ahold of edibles and such products that might not be readily available currently. Which is probably a legitimate concern. But no more than alcohol is already and parents let their 15 year old drink already so why not get high and become creative.

We can negotiate but that's where I start....you wanna smoke you gotta pay.

The tax on a pack of cigarettes is $1.08 which is only a little less than what I stated. Doesn't it make sense to tax weed more than tobacco?

no, because there isn't a massive black market for tobacco. No one is going to buy from pot shops if there's a 25% tax.

I don't get why so many small-gov conservatives want to put huge taxes on everything.

Because what is the use of legalizing weed if we aren't going to use it as a major revenue source?

The black market goes away when you legalize it right? That is what all the people for legalization are saying.

Not nearly everything.....really not really anything except for "sin" taxes....and before you ask yes I think taxes should be higher on alcohol.

this is a problematic way of looking at liberty and government power. what's the use of keeping it illegal?

not when you make it very expensive with an outrageous sin tax.

yes mostly because it's dumb not to. Instead of getting tax revenue on selling it, we spend money trying to stop it. It's not dangerous.

Eh, I'd think most would be willing to pay a bit of a premium for the convenience. Not to mention there will be a discount due to the risk being removed for selling it. 25% is pretty steep sure, but I don't think it would just drive people back to the black market.

I'm not sure what the tax rate is in CO, but the one shop I've been to in a fairly desolate part of the state was basically selling half price what you'd get on the black market in Louisiana and the quality was markedly superior.

The tax stuff is just a carrot to get those on the fence on legalization to come in fwiw.

it wasn't like that at first. also, black market prices are much lower in Colorado than Louisiana.

If/when prices are far below BM prices, a 25% tax might be feasible
