Rent is another story.. but in re to buying, home prices in Dallas are similar to Houston, or Kansas City, or Cleveland, or pretty much any other generic American city.

Austin home prices are similar to Los ANgeles, or San Francisco, or Wash DC metro.. cant believe i’m even having to type this, anyone with even the slightest familiarity with the markets knows it.. if you haven’t already discovered this, then you really have no idea.

You're not very right on either account

3k wouldn’t even be worth my time to move.

Sounds like you’re renting, so not worth getting out of your lease, finding a new apartment in Austin, packing up all of your shite, moving to Austin, paying deposits, moving expenses and all that shite.

I pretty much agree with this.

Two exceptions would be if you reeeaaally want to live in Austin.. or if you really detest living in Dallas.. doesn’t sound like either of these apply to the OP.

But Austin is nice if you stay away from the ghetto surrounding and in parts of downtown and campus

To be fair, the flight to Dallas or Houston is all of 30 minutes.

Have you run the numbers? Rent and property taxes are higher in Austin.

True, but adding in a layover means more hassle, more chance of delays, etc.. Flying these days is miserable anyway, if it isn’t a nonstop flight the misery increases even more.

That said, I’m much more a fan of Austin than Dallas, and the positives, for me, do outweigh the relative lack of flight options.

Nope. It’s a cool city.

Crowded now? Yes, but it really is nice.

Doesn’t matter. In ten years it’ll all be Texico anyway. Majority Spanish and blue as can be forever. Texas lackadaisical attitude to illegal immigration for the last 30 years (for cheap labor) is the nail in this country’s coffin. Thanks

3 grand means you take a pay cut to move here. We're approaching California prices now. Significantly more expensive than Houston or Dallas...

Also, good if you like being outdoors here. Gamers and fatties, etc. are better off in Dallas. Also if you don't like Californians and hipsters probably should stay away. We're overrun.
