Got a job offer in Austin, 3K pay raise

Unless your current salary is in the $7k per year range, you're a dumbass for even entertaining this offer.

What does the OP value?

This is the Crux of the biscuit. Personally, I live Austin but it has become as corporatized as Dallas and it's very small and cliquesh.Dallas is full of pretentious fricks...but you live there, you know. But Dallas has also developed it's own seen and no matter if you are a hippy or a frat, you can find your scene. For me, it used to be Austin no question. Now....they're equal.....and many say ft worth is the city to be in.

I live 25 miles from Austin and, even with all the “stuff to do”, I avoid going their like the plague.
Loathe the I-35 traffic.
The people are way too freaky/liberal for my liking. Or they are pretentious UT grads.
As far as living there, CoL is stupid high and will go up as the City decided to give free housing to its now sure to keep increasing homeless population. All the building restrictions suck too.
But, like Zappa Stache said, it’s what you value.

Surely the OP means $3,000 per month raise. $3,000 per year is NOT really a raise and not worth considering.

3K raise on your annual salary? Not sure if you won't spend most of that just moving and crap.

If Austin is cliquish I don't even know how I'd describe s place like New Orleans.

I found Austin to not be very cliquish at all because people actually from Austin are becoming less and less of the population (for better or worse). The people who move there are trying to make friends.

For those afraid of the liberals, so far so good for me. I'm an admitted non-Democrat voter to my friends and I haven't been excommunicated yet. I also refrain from talking politics in polite company as much as possible because it's lame.

Compared to what? It's not much different than Baton Rouge unless you have to be within 10 minutes of downtown.
