107 million people pay no income tax

Those same 107 million pay sales tax, gas tax, FICA, etc. You have to be pretty big in a refundable credit position to be negative net all taxes.

Why should a mailman, marine, or police officer have no say in who the president is or who his congressional representatives are?

I should have done a breakdown stratifying all 107 million of those people, not made a general overarching point that was extremely simple to understand. That's on me.

Think about this, are homes in Uptown New Orleans devalued because they have no good public school there?

Um, yes.

People who are paying what those homes cost are likely sending their kids to private school even if they had good public schools.

People living in $1MM+ homes in Conroe, Highland Park, Chicago suburbs, Westchester, etc. have no problem sending their children to public schools. Private schools are a weird Louisiana thing (also applicable in a few other southern states).

I never once considered what public school my house was zoned in, because my kids were always going to go to Catholic school.

I couldn't even tell you what middle school my home is zoned for. I only know the elementary school that I assume we're zoned for because it's on a main thoroughfare.

That’s dumb as hell.

Additionally, if I were already a property owner, why would I not just vote to shift all tax burden to non property owners?

The opposite of this statement is our current situation.

As you already know, in short, this is a retarded and ridiculous idea

Totally agree, people who do not pay into a system have absolutely no business deciding concerning said business.

If we're going there I want it proportional by acreage and I get to vote everywhere I own land.

Renters pay property tax it’s just not line itemed in the monthly bill.

If the complex or landlord’s taxes go up you can believe it will be passed along.

Welfare recipients pay taxes with money the government obtained via taxation.

IMO, that isn’t really paying anything at all.

They return a small portion of what was given to them, only to have it again handed back to them.

That perpetual cycle is completely idiotic on its face.

This idea popped in my head after the “ Is it rude to ask someone if they’re a property owner??” thread.

Should proof of ownership of real property be a prerequisite prior to voting on various local and state property tax issues? Think about it, if you don’t own a home or acreage, why should you be allowed to vote on those matters - i.e., tax increase, where the tax funds are to be allocated, etc.

Yes. And being a net payer of income taxes should be a prerequisite for voting in general elections.
