You just explained precisely why school administrators need to be armed. I guaranfrickintee you this shite will fricking stop when admins start shooting back.

Absofrickinglutely bro. What will cure this situation is plainclothed people firing through crowds of school kids just as the police roll up

I think this is probably a different convo for a different thread, however. Too early to politicize this.

discussing policy solutions to prevent future massacres isn't "politicizing."

A severe increase in mental health awareness/treatment would get us a lot farther than anything else, and it would solve a lot more problems than just this, IMO.

The problem is that someone has to know and care that a person has a mental illness. If it’s true that this kid had major red flags on his social media, either his parents - and every other adult around him - didn’t know or didn’t care.

yeah we should give a bunch of old ladies and fresh college graduate women handguns and expect them to defend people from maniacs intent to kill.

that's definitely the solution.

Sure it is.

It's not wrong. Just a little too soon given that we don't really know shite yet.

Sigh. I'm pointing out how metal detectors aren't the solution.

If any decision that was made post 9/11 that has thwarted aviation incidents, it was the installation of the reinforced cockpit door.

Something like this for classroom doors to prevent the shooter from traversing room to room would be a better solution that a metal detector. But again, wouldn't be the end-all for safety.

It's time for congress to approve federal grants that support active shooter countermeasures for school's to incorporate.

How is that going to help when the shooter pulled the fire alarm prior to shooting.

Maybe we should require every student to wear bullet proof vests and we should have police guarding every hall of every school. Clamoring for metal detectors is reactionary and stupid. Every school has multiple entrances. Gonna have metal detectors in the gym entrance, lunch room entrance, side doors?

FFS so the kid wasn't supposed to be there "with a backpack on"?

That type of warning implies significant appreciation of the issue
