i would say its like the Wild West, but the "Wild" West actually had stringent gun controls...

it wasn't all that "wild", tbh

Not speaking for him, but this seems to be the general argument for gun advocates. "This stuff just happens", or the new things is to go hard and heavy on mental health.

So your position is that legal abortion, promoted by certain parts of society, along with a constant stream of death in media has made us cherish life more over time? That is your position?

This is a culture issue. How many years have guns been legal? Nothing has changed there. What has changed is a generation of kids growing up with a lack of moral guidance, violent video games, music and movies that promote violence, and when they have issues, they are told to take a safe space cry. There's no accountability or set of standards to mold these kids into decent humans. This is what happens in such a selfish and me first society as we have in modern America.

More focus on mental health and prescription drug abuse. We made a decision as a society decades ago to make it much harder to institutionalize people so crap like this happens more and more.

This is insane, Santa Fe is about 15 minutes away from my house. Had some coworkers that left work to go pickup their kids. Sad day

I somewhat agree

However, other first world countries have raised the same type of social media me first society, and they arent having these school issues..........

So what do we not have in common with these countries?

Pick your poison:

1. Guns

2. Mental Health awareness

Those are the two biggest differences between us and the other 1st world countries that dont seem to be having these issues.

However, there are far too many guns in this country to think any kind of mass ban would do any good.

Agreed. But maybe over time... changes to sentencing guidelines and whatnot would result in more illegal guns being taken off the street and not being sold in the black market as much, combined with tougher laws to buy in the first place, combined with mental health care improvements, combined with X, Y, Z, etc.

I mean there is no simple answer.

WTF is the troll about that. It's the damn truth. If everyone is left to decide what is right and wrong for them, then you get a wide variance on what that is. These kids are not taught how to deal with stress, depression, or emotions other than to just kill people or take medicine. The breakdown in our culture is real.

This is what Republicans cry every time there is a mass shooting, yet nothing is ever done. Please lay out in specifics what your "focus on mental health" plan is.

Good point

Lost me there, violence in pop-culture has been around for a long time. That is not an excuse.

Another good point

I'd like to add, a lack of parenting and/or just generally raising your kid to not grow up and be a turd is all too common.

probably because the folks on the other side of the isle just as quickly jump to "ban guns" without factoring in mental health, fatherless homes, medication, etc, etc, etc.

I love that this is the new token narrative, even though it has never been proven that a majority of these shooters suffered from mental health issues.

It's pretty stupid to assume murderers are motivated by firearms.

The real problem is figuring out why we're such a violent society in general.

Thats the point.

The fact most of these clear psychos have never been in mental health treatment or diagnosed IS THE ISSUE

horseshite.

the majority of the mass shootings in the past 2-3 years, the mass shooters have been on some flavor of depression medication.
