The real problem is figuring out why we're such a violent society in general.
We are absolute angles and live in a peaceful time in comparison to the rest of history.
Our ancestors laugh at our “violent society”

o, bringing in other known common factors into the argument is considered "shrugging our shoulders and trying to misdirect". got it.
When you don't want to even talk about how guns play into it, it sure is.

This is what Republicans cry every time there is a mass shooting, yet nothing is ever done. Please lay out in specifics what your "focus on mental health" plan is.
This is fair.
I think the volume of guns is probably aiding in these events, but it's not the cause of them (obviously). I'm a 2A advocate and I'm not for any kneejerk gun control measures whatsoever.
I do think it's futile to pretend gun availability doesn't help. I also think it's dumb to respond with gun-centric solutions to these problems.
The truth is a lot of people are getting left behind in our society. Shitty parenting, mental health, evil, whatever it is, there are foundational issues. That's part of the reason I find the "we need more guns, not less!!! arm everyone!" type responses so stupid.

Banning guns or focusing on mental health are about as useless as trying to hold together a sinking ship with duct tape and band-aids.
So what's the answer?

I love that this is the new token narrative
It's not a new narrative you poorly educated frickwit, but it is a better focus unlike the unoriginal talking points you parrot on this subject, same stale rhetoric that's been repeated for 40+ years.

I agree with you Darth but, other than crazy extremists, no one is trying to totally ban guns. I just don’t think it hurts to maybe attempt to both tackle the mental health issue while at the same time making access to weapons a bit more difficult. I don’t know if either can realistically be done.

but it's crazy to me that for a lot of people we are not allowed to discuss the gun aspect of these tragedies
bullshite. It's been discussed ad nauseam.

I think it's a combination of that and shitty parents when it comes to school shootings.
I totally agree most of these kids that do this come from broken homes. To them they seem lost with no future. Seems none of them have any close connections to their kids.

Why does this have to be a black only issue and why did you assume that? Hmmmm

So you are telling me you don't think a neighborhood full of complete nuclear families is a good thing for America?

And the Democrat cry is to ban guns while ignoring that guns have always been readily available since the founding of the country yet for some reason it’s only recently that kids started taking them to school and shooting their classmates. Something has changed and it’s not “access” to guns. Kids have always had access to guns. So what’s changed that makes so many of them decide to take them to school and and go on killing sprees?
And yet you cant answer the fricking question

we as a society need to figure out a better way to deal with both
good luck with that... dealing with mental health will take understanding, which many just don't want to do and would rather the "tough love" trope, and money, which will take additional taxes, in many cases, or stripping money from one sector of government to apply to that cause, which many will just automatically be opposed to as it doesn't directly benefit them....
and as far as the access to arms, well, just read some of the posts in this thread and that will give you an idea of how popular that would be....
so in the end, we just have to sit back and absorb another 8 or so kids not coming home tonight, and just chalk it up to "well, bad people do bad things" and just talk about it, rather than actually try to come up with a decent compromise to move the needle in the right direction....

So what happens when it’s revealed that the shooters parents are undocumented?

What do you think is the solution then?
I know it sounds harsh, but what about protracted torture of the killers if they do not cowardly kill themselves?

My solution is to ban social media to kids under 18. I think it would fix a lot of the problems in school
Posted on 5/18/18 at 10:40 am to terd ferguson
fact: 36 of the mass shootings since 1988 have been linked to anti-depressants
but nope, can't be counted as a common factor in shootings.
