Im guessing this contract involved lining the pockets of Southern’s board members

Advanced Biomedics beat out two other finalists for the marijuana contract last fall, despite a review committee recommending the board pick a different vendor.
Earlier this spring, at a Southern board meeting where members were deciding whether to sign a deal with Advanced Biomedics, Southern University President and Chancellor Ray Belton touted the “positive cash flow” that would come from the deal.
“If we move away from Advanced Biomedics, where do we go? Who do we go to? Another vendor whom this board has already found does not provide the kind of subsidies which we are seeking right now?” Belton said at the meeting.
if you want an amazing look at the short term/scarcity mindset, here you go

It’s almost (ALMOST!) hard to believe that is an actual quote from a University President. Then you remember it is Southern.

Knew that was gonna happen the second they announced it.

Southern University in shambles...
I fixed your thread subject.
So, Southern (and their contracted partners) hasn't even gotten land to START their operations....I'd love to see how much money they've spent though. Soon they'll be claiming they need more. That whole cluster frick of a "school" up there needs to be demolished.

It looks as though this may have been one of those schemes where they get the contract then try to sell to investors who will actually carry it out. The quick buck hasn’t materialized, however. The article mentions Hunter Perret trying to buy a stake post contract but they couldn’t reach terms. You wonder whether the present stake holders have any intention of actually carrying out the operation.
Default these guys and start over.

You would think the one thing that Southern would care about doing right is growing weed

So, frick competence. We aren't concerned with who will actually do the best job. We want someone to pay us now. That is our only concern.
How is that school not audited constantly? They bleed money through graft and incompetence. Every upper level employee sees the university as their get rich quick scheme. They have no interest in actually educating people. But if you try to fix things, they will cry racism.
And every problem you see at Southern, multiply it by 12 for SUNO.

Would you want the Ditch Weed southern would grow anyway?

The only clickable link their website has is an "About Us" section. There is zero information on their main page (and none anywhere else), and it was made on Go Daddy in 2017.
Looks like Southern did their homework
Eta: After reading more about it, it seems that the company had internal problems (and a lawsuit), Southern was aware of it, yet they chose AB anyway. The majority owner was even thinking about suing Southern
Nothing corrupt about that.

Louisiana Tech would be more responsible with it. Put one in North Louisiana to normalize it with the Bible thumpers up there.

Give it to ULL or Tulane

"Pay up, Mortimer, I've won the bet."
The state should try a Trading Places type deal with the SU and LSU boards just for shits and giggles.

I am sure they could join up wit Baton Rouge Cousil on Aging for the appropriate land grant scheme.

It’s more proof that it’s a cultural problem not a systemic problem.
LSU and Southern were given the exact same opportunity.
LSU did their homework and found the best company to oversee their operation.
Southern just sold to the highest bidder without any consideration other than the short term money.
This was an opportunity for southern to create a cash cow to support the rest of the university for years to come but instead of seeing the big picture, they tried to squeeze as much money out of it in the short term.
What’s the saying, you can lead a horse to water but you can’t make him drink.
Edit: also the president is retarded if he still won’t choose a new partner cuz they won’t offer more upfront money. At the moment, he has been promised $6m but has seen $0. Even if the new partner only offers $1m it would be a better deal than they currently have.
$1m > $0
