Honestly, this pretty well nails it for Undergrad. You go where you fit and develop the network that will help you down the road to get a job, make friends, and maybe find a spouse. That's why LSU is the right fit for most people in LA. It's the LA brand and it carries weight down the road. It helps to have that degree in LA but if the fit is ULM, LA Tech, or ULL, then you carry that network with you. Honestly, after you have been in the real world and gotten some work experience, the degree is not near as important so all you really have is the networking. That's why I value getting a Masters at a more legit school much more important if an advanced degree is something you want to pursue.

I love all the people who consistently come to an LSU board to say BR sucks. We get it. You don’t like BR. Let it go.

Didn't have my major, for undergrad or graduate school.

I wanted out of Baton Rouge. I lived here my whole life so I went to furthest in state school that was still a good school in the state. That's how I ended up at LA Tech and I loved every minute of it.

I worked fulltime, lived at home, and went to school at night & graduated with near nothing in debt.
I saved a boat load of cash that way. To me the lifestyle wasnt worth the cost

Because people are individuals, not a singular group that thinks and acts as one. They have different paths they are on, and different purposes from your own.

anyone from BR and went to LSU? did you regret it?

You're on an LSU board, so obviously you like LSU. So if you chose to go to a directional school, why? It's not like LSU is that much more expensive or harder to get into.
And I'm not really talking to people who went out of state or didn't go to college (welders be makin money). I'm talking to people who had the option but decided against the flagship.
I was accepted to both, as well as ULL and Tulane... I was given the opportunity to try out for a walk-on position at ULL and Tulane (neither as a preferred walk-on). Then Louisiana Tech came along and offered me a scholarship. I visited Ruston and really enjoyed the small, college town atmosphere and the lack of traffic. So with the tuition covered and the fact that I thought I could enjoy the college experience in Ruston, it was an easy choice. Had I not been offered that scholarship, I'd have probably wound up in Baton Rouge. Looking back now... no doubt in my mind I made the right choice.

Tech is the only Tier 1 public University in the state and is consistently the best value University in the state. Not sure where you get your information from, but you are incorrect in your thinking.

1. Your bars close at 1am
2. you don't have a nice 24/7 casino 5 minutes south of campus
3. you're an hour from Beale, we're an hour from Bourbon.

Harvard doesn't compare to the common intellectuals you find at LSU.

Easy... for me i was accepted at LSU and already had my dorm and schedule (lost a lot of cash by changing so late).
Made the decision to stay closer to home and my single mom and younger sister (I am from north Louisiana).
Went to Louisiana Tech and absolutely loved it but it didn't change my love for LSU.

LSU would have been like reliving high school, pretty much everyone I knew stayed in BR
Ed was my roommate and we're both from Baton Rouge.
My reasons are similar.
I grew up within a couple miles of campus, my mom taught at LSU, had too many friends from high school go to LSU, we went to LSU bars in high school. It would’ve been high school 2.0 which has been confirmed to my plenty of people that said they wished they had gone outside of Baton Rouge to experience something new.
I got into better schools than Ole Miss, but I loved Oxford and it was the perfect distance away for me. 5 hour drive, not too close not too far, and not a flight.
I am still a huge LSU fan and came back for all the big games. 4 years in college doesn't erase 18 years of LSU fandom.

I graduated from Southeastern. I chose there instead of LSU, because it was a good bit cheaper, and it took me about the same time to get to Hammond from my house as it did to get to LSU.

1. As opposed to 2? And we reverse seared our nights out. Went Bar > House party.
2. Tunica was an hour and we'd take weekend trips there plenty. Its an actual casino town. And L'Auberge wasn't there when we were in college. And who the frick makes a decision based on this?
3. We didn't really go to Memphis that much. Occasionally, but certainly not enough to sway us. I would go to New Orleans all the time because of family and when we came home regularly. All our formals were there as well.

Well, aren't you a piece of work.

Because I have a mind of my own and don't groupthink like a lot of people in this state tend to do. It's threads like these that prove why our state is 49th-50th in higher ed. But I'll play along.
I was a junior in high school living in NOLA when Katrina hit. My family and I were displaced in Lafayette, and I was forced to go to high school there for a little while. The people in that city couldn't have been more welcoming, and I fell in love with the place because it had that small-town vibe for a population of over 100k.
I had the chance to go to LSU, but also considered UL(L) because of my experience in Lafayette. When I went to their preview day, I liked the smaller campus and the business school really impressed me. So I chose to go to that "glorified third rate high school that you hope the legislature hopes to close down." (your words from the rant). Plus, Baton Rouge traffic sucks.
So, there you have it. I regret nothing on my decision.

These things may have changed slightly over the last few years (and is likely with the cuts to LSU....I don't keep track), but this is not true when I was at LSU 8 years ago. LSU was tier 1 as well and ranked ahead of Tech.
