MD Anderson is excellent, the best place to be in the South if you have cancer.

From what I have read and heard from others, I agree. I know in terms of "customer service" he said it is a night and day difference from where he first was. MD Anderson takes a "team" approach and everyone is so accommodating.

I have two friends who had kidney cancer at a relatively young age (40 - 45). Both had surgery to removed the cancerous kidney and 15 years later they're they're fine. Your friend's cancer has spread and is in his bones. That's an entirely different issue.
I wish him the best.

His cancer appears to be very aggressive. 3 months ago, he was fine. Zero issues. About 2.5 months ago, he started with a strained back. He thought it was (and still does to some degree) a pulled muscle. He then started getting a bad cough. The doctor diagnosed him with bronchitis, which turned into walking pneumonia. The cough went away.

Finally a chest x-ray and blood work. And then more tests. And here we are today.

I was diagnosed with kidney cancer in March of this year. Tumor was discovered after a CT scan because they thought I may have kidney stones. Nope. Damn thing had taken over my entire right kidney. I went from one Friday of having two, to the next Friday with only one kidney. They also removed four lymph nodes, all clear. Tumor came back as 80% clear cell, with 20% rhabdoid components. I now have to have CT scans every three months to check. If after three years, nothing shows up, then I have them every six months. Treatment will be immunotherapy, as I’ve been told kidney cancer does not respond well to chemo or radiation. If it comes back, I’m going to MD Anderson.

I had an aggressive lymphoma Burketts and had BMT. I lived in California at the time and I went to the UCLA medical center.
My surgery to remove the tumors was done at the UCLA medical center.
BMT, they put me in a room that had a little room you entered where people who came in put on gloves, mask, and a yellow suit. That part sucked and I had to throw away magazines etc when I left and went back to a regular inpatient room.

They sent me to MD Anderson to get my BMT as it was closer for my sister. Then I stayed there to do my Chemo, as they had a doctor my oncologist at UCLA had confidence in at the time Dr Andre Goy. I could have done the both at UCLA

I was both inpatient and outpatient during my treatment. I remember outpatient they did send people back to their home town if they felt they could be treated locally. It is rough to get an apartment and be away from your support group.

My good friend passed away on Christmas Day. No more pain. His type of cancer was very aggressive. Kidney. Did not respond to any kind of treatment. Heart rate had elevated up to 140 -150 bpm resting and 170 bpm when sitting up in bed. Fluid buildup. Incredible amount of discomfort.

41 years old. Leaves behind two children.

As bad as things can be for all of us at times, and a lot of times self-inflicted without us even knowing, we all have today to make changes to ourselves. Use your time wisely for none of us are promised tomorrow. And spend time with the people who matter the most to you, even if they have caused you hurt. Try forgiving them — not for them, but for you. Because in the end, you will be graced with peace and closure if you do instead of anger and regret.

Because the idea that by simply eating “real foods” destroys cancers cells is utterly ridiculous

Actually it is not. There are several studies looking into this. One of the biggest drivers of cancer is actually sugar. Cancer feeds off sugar and it has been proven sugar and other foods speed up the growth.

By eating real foods, are arent destroying the cancer, you are literally starving it. There is a real push to dive further into this. Several studies are looking at the correlation between cancer increases and the rise of processed foods.

All this being said, your diet will not cure cancer. It can help with the fight though. If you are in a situation where you’re fighting for your life, why the f would you not try it?

There are a few thread types I will read on the OT. For some reason threads similar to this pull me in. My grandfather who I love dearly passed away over a decade ago from lung cancer that was likely self induced. That may be a reason why. But these threads pull me in and scare the shite out of me every time. The amount of people who respond with personal anecdotal information probably scares me the most.

I’ll say a prayer for your buddy, his family, and his friends this AM.

This. Ive had three PET scans in my life and I found it fascinating that they inject you with nuclear glucose to “excite” the cancer cells and I take that the cancer cells think they are getting fed. Those cancer cells will light up your scan like a Christmas tree when fed the glucose so there is certainly something to the intake of certain foods and their affects on cancer.

I’m so terribly sorry about your friend and his family. May you all find peace and comfort in knowing he is no longer suffering.

This hits really close to home for me because I know my kidney cancer can return at anytime. My appreciation for life and for those that are important to me has really taken on a new perspective since March.

Wow. Some cancers can be very aggressive. Knew a guy who was active one summer, to experiencing a "little lower back pain" to dead of colon cancer by the next spring. In his 50s.

Not sure why you're being downvoted for this. It's indisputable and more and more science continues to emerge.

OP, sorry for your loss.
