I don't disagree. I was talking about only "expensive" restaurants. I don't find a $75 seafood meal all that good, I'd rather a $25 seafood meal from a local place.
If I'm dropping $100+ on just food, it's going to be a steakhouse for me.

You can keep your truffle roasted small plate with a side of arugula.
It tastes fine, but it just doesn't provide the utility to me for the price.
But I don't mind going to Nick and Sam's and getting a nice ribeye or NY strip, the price for that is worth it to me.

I'm in tax consulting and was starting to get burnt out on it. Some stuff I still like, but other stuff I absolutely dreaded.
I just got an opportunity to go start the practice for my niche at a smaller mid size firm (about 3000 us employees) so I'm excited about that. It'll be just as much about sales as technical knowledge. I'm ready to go again.

Do whatever you want, but you are wasting your money and in the case of pre-workout, nesting the biggest benefit to your body you can do, which is sleep.
To get caffeine to do 4x5 of bench press. I'm not trying to be a dick, a lot of people just don't know. They see shiny Instagram ads how this pre gets you shredded and take 300mg of caffeine at 5:30pm

You don't.

I know I’m in the tiny minority here, but if you have to get a side gig for fricking beer money, you are a trashy mother fricker with an alcohol problem and need to reevaluate your whole life.
I max my HSA and Roth and contribute up to my employers match in my 401k.
Id love to find something to make $750/month that I could just blow and not feel bad about it.

I'd love to find a hobby that could score a little extra coin. I don't really need the money, but I'll always take it, and I dont need to be sitting around watching TV or playing Warzone anyway.

Fellas, most of you are in your mid 30s or mid 40s, you don't need pre-workout to go to anytime fitness to lift for 45 minutes 4 days a week. And you likely don't need protein powder, just eat some meat and you will easily hit your needed protein goals.
Drink a cup of coffee or if it's after noon, better yet, don't. Sufficient sleep is the best performance enhancer in the game.

Poor
An extra $1,500 in income would have cost me, ironically, right around tree fiddy in federal

A lot of the tax system sucks, but you are right on this. I'd bet that 99% of posters on this site don't have a marginal tax rate over 15% becuase they unknowingly utilize all of the tax credits and deductions they bitch about.

Again, how is anyone going to know if you work extra for cash and don't deposit any of it? I'm not saying it's "right". I made an extra $1,500 one year upgrading and troubleshooting computers but as soon as the cash entered my hand, it went straight to gas, food, or diapers. The hassle to claim $1,500 on my income tax return wasn't even worth it.
If it's straight cash (and even if it's not) you most likely aren't going to get caught.
But when you start thinking "oh its only $5k" and then get a $10k plus tax bill, that would suck.
Your philosophic views on the tax system is completely different.

If I only made $5k in income, I wouldn't have to report it. But since I have a job, that I already pay taxes on, anything extra the IRS wants a piece of it.
Yes, that is how a progressive tax system works.
