OPSB can rebrand all they want.
NolaPublic Schjols - where $50 Million vanishes in thin air. And an incompetent board puts #3 in charge grinning all the way.
Corrupt people and history repeats itself every 10 years with these crooks

So that’s to say I’m not surprised this happened

I got a $450 speeding ticket in Dublin 20 years ago for doing 12-13 over. Can't remember if it was local or a state trooper, but they should have plenty of money.

I’ll also say that school numbers are down post covid due to a lot of home schooling and maybe just fewer kids in general as people have less. I think my daughters school is down something like 25%, which they all bitch about but they were busting at the seems with trailers for classrooms and not fitting in the lunch room. So frankly I’m happy.

This could be as simple as their enrollment is down and they did a shitty job of managing the budget and debt due to that.

Dublin is a government welfare city there is a huge VA Hospital down there that employs half the town. Whole place is a grift.

$20,000,000 is a hell of a grift if someone is on the take. More likely they ran a deficit years ago and kept trying to cover debt with more debt and the interest kept growing. Then there was no more road left to kick the can down any farther.

The Dublin City Board of Education (Georgia) proposed a tight operating budget of $44.9 million for the 2024–2025 fiscal year (FY25). The spending plan faced severe financial turbulence, running in a deficit for all of FY25 due to a massive multi-million dollar shortfall and accounting errors

They were only off a smidge.

Just read that the state Dept of Ed removed the Board and new Board members will be appointed. That is quick work.

So firing people isn't bad?

Go figure.

That’s not a large district. To have a $20M deficit, the entire board had to be asleep at the wheel.

That’s awful even by government standards! An average of $8,700 per student vs the U.S. deficit, which only averages out to around $5,800 per citizen.

Not sure about Georgia laws, but the state needs to completely take over that district.

The stretch from Macon to Dublin, particularly the Twiggs County area is a cash cow for the state patrol. As someone who (sadly) drives that way often, I have to set my cruise control and just bear with it.

So, that equates to ~8,700 per student. I swear public school is such a waste of money and time. There are some really nice private schools that you could send your kids to for the money we spend on public school bullshite.

Hot take:

School Board positions who fail to implement proper budgets should all be replaced if they fail.

Same goes for politicians. They have every resource at their disposal to make things happen, yet they continually fail.

I personally did not lay blame on anyone. I just asked one question about a group of pictures based on something that I directly quoted from the article.

I am innocent

Just who I'd turn my affairs over too :eye roll:

Man, $20m in this context is unbelievable. There has to be theft or graft going on here.

Our local Houston City College (formerly the Houston Community College) had the same issues, shite canned their elected board, and placed the entire program into receivership for management. Same with HISD.

We are dealing with a similar issue here in Lexington. Just fired the superintendent over it. School has unexplained 20M or more shortfall going back years. Also find out that many administrators have gone on trips as far away as Australia for "work" trips.

Taxpayers, the govt at all levels doesn't care about being fiscally responsible. They know they can spend whatever they have and you will have to pony up more.

It's time taxpayers demanded accountability from govt.

Or lied to, the Superintendent took the 5th when the board's lawyers started asking him about the infomation he provided to the board over the past 18 months.

Yeah in the Houston area, that's the size of a middle school or high school.
