And that is the only thing that forces me to ignore all logic and reason.... And ultimately believe there are larger cats in south Louisiana.
There have been numerous documented sightings in Louisiana. Several people have gotten them on game cameras.

There’s not a breeding population, but they’re here. Probably from Texas which has a good population.

A pumper near where I work took this from his truck a couple weeks ago. The mountain lion scared the shite out of him. He's lucky it had a fresh kill. The scene would make a badass mount though.

want to import mountain lions into Louisiana so that hogs can have a predator.

fish and game.
Maybe a well connected politician you know.
Many steps.

If you just do it and it bites someone's child, youd be liable in ways that last.

Joe Rogan has a good podcast about the lion population in LA. Apparently it’s an epidemic. They’re overrun with the big cats

Far more of a problem are coyotes.

A coyote is a hell of an animal! There's nowhere in this country that they cannot get. There are islands with no known import of coyotes that they have, evidently, swam to. They are resilient and smarter than most think. Their natural predator, across much of the US was the grey wolf. When wolves were nearly wiped out, coyotes started going unchecked. The problems associated with them will only get worse.

I myself have seen 2 cougars.
Just a quick glimpse of one 2 years ago crossing the road in front of my truck before daylight in the TRNWR.
The other I watched cross a large power line RoW off highway 15 near Shaw, La. on 12/30/99. I was deer hunting and had the thing in my scope all the way across the RoW.

There are some neighborhoods that have warning systems in place if they are spotted. One that I know is a gated community, but is backed up to state forest on two sides. Coyotes got so bad for them, taking pets regularly out of backyards, that they had their security guards trained on spotting them. The neighborhood also formed some sort of watch group and a call out phone message if/when they were spotted in the area.

True story:
I currently have a 17 year old chihuahua that should be studied by science. He is tough! Years ago, we were out early, just before daylight when a single coyote passed through our front yard. The bastard picked up his trot and just reached down and grabbed the dog. I shined my light, yelled, and threw a stick which caused the coyote to drop him. If it had been hungry, I wouldn't have an old, ornery chihuahua bossing me around today.

Mountain lion looks starved. It was a high risk attack for it, seems there probably isn't enough prey around. What's new in California, the whole ecosystem seems to be fricked there.

You'd be wrong.

I used to have a few bulldogs who stayed in a few acres fenced in when I wouldn't get home until late. Started having more issues with coyotes and got a livestock dog pup to watch them. Coyotes went in that yard after the pup and attacked him. A few of them died when the bulldogs joined in.

Later in life his favorite activity was to lay out in that yard at night and whine like a puppy until one was dumb enough to clear the fence. None ever made it back over alive.

Screw a coyote.

Nature gonna nature
A pit bull would have killed them all

Pumas
Are not over populated it’s freaking nature there is a lot of shite that will kill you in nature you can’t legislate safety if that were the case people would be moving to Baltimore!
Get over yourselves yes you could take your child on a hike and your child could have its head ripped off and it’s body eaten! Or you could be prepared, pepper spray gun etc if a puma is stalking you, you will be the last to know. Be subservient to a species they can and will kill you just like bears. We/you are not the alpha regardless of what your parents told you.

I've seen a few in that same area the attack happened. We used to mountainbike in the mountains just a few miles from Whiting Ranch and would occasionally see a mountain lion in the distance. This was 30 years ago and when it was believed they wouldn't attack adults. I used to ride out there by myself some but wouldn't do that now.

Why? because it got a taste of Human blood? I feel like a cat is going to stalk a child regardless. It doing it, doesnt make it more or less likely to do it again.

then again I am not in that field so my opinion is worthless
