This was obviously the right move, but I still feel bad for the cougar. Seeing the urban sprawl of CA behind him in that reddit photo makes you realize how much people have encroached onto their hunting grounds. Totally not his fault and a case of "the city moved to me."

Definitely had to kill the lion, but just a shame that they are running out of space... they can not exist so close to humans

This is pretty much what I saw a couple years ago in Colorado at night with my spotlight, 12 yards away. But he was crouched down facing me. I remember the muscles, whiskers and teeth when he snarled.

Buddy of mine was bowhunting in Mt and was stalked for a couple of hours by one. It was really stealthy and freaked him out.

Female mountain lions sound like a woman being murdered when they scream. Eerie how human it sounds

Jesus, could you imagine that monster walking slowly in front of you weaving back and forth between your feet trying to trip you?

My cat just did that, I hate when he does that.

This is a perfect example of why should always open carry a Laser pointer while in the wilderness.

Seems like the dad have made a rudimentary‘mouse’ on a string or something to distract him.

And that is the only thing that forces me to ignore all logic and reason.... And ultimately believe there are larger cats in south Louisiana.

Because I've heard some sounds that'll make you hair stand on end

It amazes me how stealthy they are. Seems like one gets captured on backyard or street cams here in the metro every year. A few years ago police killed one that was wandering around a business park in the middle of Omaha

I have a place on a river in rural, even for MT, Southwest MT. Cats are around, particularly during calving season. There is something visceral about having another apex predator species occupy the same area. If you haven’t seen one or heard one, it is hard to understand. I don’t run the lanes on the place at dust or early morning. I don’t let the dog roam the wood lot. I’ve talked to my wife about being conscious of her surroundings. I’m not frightened of cats or particularly concerned, but one would be an idiot to not realize a big cat is a serious threat, not to mention bears or moose. Everyone out there who fishes or hunts seems to have a moose story,
