BATON ROUGE - Rouses is opening its latest store in North Baton Rouge, aiming to help fill a major need for an underserved part of the community.

Rouses said Monday that it plans to open the new market at the corner of Florida Boulevard and N Ardenwood Drive.

If that’s North Baton Rouge consider me Miles Davis

Broadmoor is positioned to make HUGE improvements over the next decade. We were really tempted to buy an updated home in that area but found one closer to work.

The middle of the day drive by shooting a few weeks ago was a nice touch

We moved out of the house I grew up in in Sherwood Forest because a nice family moved in across the street and brought several drive by shootings with them, one recently resulting in a death. Not kidding.

That Rouses stays packed with a pretty mixed crowd. Not exactly comparable to NBR.

News Alert:

Shoppers Value on Govt had best deals on meat constantly. Also, I never see empty shelves of anything. Wife and I are on a carnivore diet and clean up in there as they mark down meat to crazy prices if “expired” by even one day, that includes bacon, Get 12oz packs for $1.99 all day and grass fed ribeyes for $6-$7 a lb.

I do miss the Friday night 21 gun salute.

It gets so bad you have to get on your knees to honor not being hit by bullets.

Just a corporate morality move. Let’s move just within the north/mid city border and we will always mention how it’s NORTH every chance we get. They dare not move to true northern areas.

There are also tax incentives for being in the North BR Economic Development District that they wouldn't get across the street.

More than likely Rouses will be the one making bank from all the EBT and WIC transactions.

Is it closed yet? The Lowe’s in NOLA East couldn’t stay afloat either.

In that area along Florida Blvd, all they have is a Mexican grocery store. I would imagine they will pick up business from commuters that take Florida all the way to Denham Springs.

So they are in a food desert and get a tax break. But because these things are so foolishly broken out by census tract rather than proximity to a grocery store, they are also very close to 4 competitors that don't get tax breaks - Hi Nabor, Shoppers Value, Calandro's, and a Wal Mart Supercenter.

It's a no-brainer move by Rouses IMO. They'll pull a lot of mid-city shoppers and they'll stay busy because they are right on Florida Blvd. In North Baton Rouge, but only by a few hundred feet. The site already has a huge parking lot and they can probably get away with just updating the facade of the building and adding a few tree islands and lighting.

And they also get the added benefit of being minutes away from a bunch of bigger employers and office buildings. So their prepared food business will do very well.
