I just looked it up and I was wrong and you was right. They cannot claim the rounded up amount as a tax donation.

They can, and do, however get to claim a deduction for the administrative cost of running said collection.

So in the end, while they don’t get the huge tax deduction, they are able to claim a chunk as a deduction, which while most likely insignificant to Walmart, would most likely amount to years of tax income for an individual and should still not be scoffed at.

It would be illegal for them to write it off. Corporations cannot write off donations. They are doing it out of the goodness of their corporate bleeding hearts.

That $0.16 has you triggered. Just click no and let it go. Your BP will thank you. Or, shop where they don’t do this ridiculous thing.

I’m an automatic no.

It’s bad enough getting asked to tip a cashier who did absolutely nothing, but now I need to donate to some charity I know nothing about?

Nope.

DO YOU WANT TO ROUND UP FOR KIDS?

I got asked this when I did the drive through at McDonalds's the other day . Guy asked if I wanted to round up for charity. I asked him what the charity was and he said I honestly don't know. I typically do round up but screw donating if you don't even know for what.

Your order can be $4.17 and they will ask if you want to round up. Are you kidding? Why don't they ever ask if we want to round down?

When asked if I want to round up I always respond that they are welcome to round down and make the donation themselves.

All of the truck stop chains have started doing this shite too. Loves used to have the Childrens Miracle Network in October only, now it's year round after they found out how much of a tax write off they get on their customers dime. Same with Pilot Flying J - they do a veterans charity. TA/Petro just wants straight donations to the corporate vacation fund because they suck balls.

People have no issues with asking for money anymore.

Been training them when we started having kids working the corners asking for money for their sport of choice instead of them washing cars, selling overpriced candy, doing neighborhood work.....

Please show the class the journal entries and how Wal-Mart gets a tax benefit from taking your money to donate to charity. We will wait.

Love the children, hate the greedy employees for the charities. Im sure many have, but if not, read up on charities and how much of the money donated is actually given to the subjects of the charity. There are a few anomalies in the world but most give less than half of all money received to the actual people who need the money.
It's why I prefer to give to normals on the street when in the mood. No middle man taxing 50% off the top. I dont care what they do with it once I give it to them. I mind my own pockets.
