Sad day

The Archdiocese of New Orleans, its finances strained by the mounting cost of unresolved-clergy abuse lawsuits and the coronavirus-related shutdown of church services, filed for bankruptcy in New Orleans' federal courthouse just after midnight Thursday, records show.

The 227-year-old institution serving half a million New Orleans-area parishioners joins more than two dozen other dioceses and Catholic religious orders across the U.S. that have sought financial protection from creditors since the clergy-abuse scandal boiled over in 2002.

Shutdown hurt them like all the other businesses.

At the least the other businesses pay taxes.

Good frick the Roman Catholic Church. But frick that they should not be allowed to file BK. The Vatican should be forced to sell one of their millions of priceless artifacts to cover their operating expenses.

I pity the Judge presiding over this. Considering each Parish is separately incorporated and the church also has several other entities it controls which are separately incorporated there are hundreds of interconnected entities for which creditors may want the connections examined. The lawyers for the victims of the rape conspiracy are not going away and their final bill will only grow as they will bring more lawyers in to navigate their rights in the bankruptcy.

So they raped kids and don’t want to pay for it, and people here support this?

So the global child rape syndicate has to declare BK due to child rape lawsuits? Tragic

I am a Christian and have Faith but... the Catholic Church has done plenty of bad throughout the millennia. It can’t be denied. You can argue about the good it has done but this isn’t a balancing act, it is the worlds largest religious organization.

They badly need a full reset but the politicians and bureaucrats within their ranks will never allow it. I can’t fault anyone who criticizes them and it is sad to watch truly good people who are embarrassed by their association with the church.

It has also done more good than bad. Of course it is a balancing act, even the worse sinner among us can find redemption in the eyes of the lord.

I don't disagree. I just like fricking with people. The catholic church has done a lot of bad and they've done a lot of good. Priests have touched a lot of boys. But religion in general is kind of a fricked up thing in general. There's a lot of good and bad. Tony Spell is a great example. Jimmy Swaggart, Jim Baker... etc... I'm catholic, but I take all religion with a grain of salt. I spent 3 years in Iraq. At first I was like "frick these heathen mother frickers" but then I thought.... who's to say my religion is right and their's is wrong. Basically, I have a lot of questions.

Imagine the outcry if a political club that was recruiting young people was accused of raping them, and filed for bankruptcy to avoid prosecution.

That club would never survive, except those associated with that political view of the club would defend it.

The bottom-feeding plaintiff attorneys will be sorely disappointed. Sorry (not sorry).

Yeah, the scumbag attorneys representing those scumbag plaintiffs who were fricking raped by priests then raped again by the church for covering it up and transferring priests all over the place so they could rape again. How dare they sue!

Sounds like you are the bottom feeder.

The problem is some of its "good" has actually been pretty bad. Look at Catholic Charities facilitating the importation of the third world into good communities, who then become a burden to those communities.
