Except you can fill your gas truck anywhere in about 5 minutes. You'll need to find a charging station and burn an hour with this thing. Then do it all over again in a couple hours. No thanks.

There are so many forum posts just like this

But, the gas mileage while towing is a bit disappointing. While getting 21-23 mpg running to and fro, we only get 8-10 mpg while towing
, plus my own real world experience that I'm juts gonna go ahead and say we can agree to disagree even though you;'re just wrong

which evidently resulted in a 62% degradation of the battery after just 118 miles of travel.
It may not be good either way, but your title does not reflect what was actually stated, fwiw.

Just carry 4 gas powered generators in the bed , charging as you drive.

This is such a horribly written article. After 118 miles the dash still showed 44 miles remaining. That’s 162 mile range.

With no load they claim 310 miles, 162 is pretty close to their advertised “50% range loss”

Even more steps than the diesel powered charging stations.

So there would be no more battery degradation during those 44 miles?

Well I’ll just continue to pull my boat with a real truck, my Honda Ridgeline.

Call it 140 miles (half of 44), it’s still not 62%

It’s a poorly written article. Based off of an instagram post. Not an actual test.

One of the intensivists in my wife's group will be among the first to get one. I'm looking forward to seeing it.

Math isn’t my strong suit, but if I’m doing this right, if 118 miles pulled 62% of the battery’s charge, that should mean that the vehicle (assuming the same rate of reduction) would travel 190.3 miles before fully depleting the battery.

Now, I have no dog in this hunt otherwise, but the headline is stupid and irked me.

Never rode in a newer electric vehicle but if it’s anything like a golf cart you start losing power when when battery is almost fully discharged. I would expect towing to make this even worse. I am not sure why they don’t move full-size trucks to diesel electric hybrid systems. 20-30 kw diesel genset burns a little over a gallon an hour then you could truly power your house in an outage

F250 goes from close to 19mpg to maybe 10.5-11mpg towing my travel trailer that's not even 11k lbs.

The use of the word "degradation" instead of "efficiency" or "range loss" is stupid. Battery "degradation" is permanent loss of capacity; lower efficiency is not the same as degradation.

And if you frequently tow heavy loads long distances, DON'T buy an electric truck. Same for gas trucks. My 2500 gets 8 mpg with heavy loads; I know plenty of people who buy diesels just for fuel economy and range when towing.

Reality is, most people who own trucks don't tow heavy loads for long distances. If you do, then buy an oil burner. This is also why I don't support bans on fossil fuels. Electric vehicles don't work for everyone and that isn't going to change any time soon.

Same here my diesel 250 gets 18 hwy and 10 towing a 9,000 lb trailer pretty big loss in economy

My F-250 doesn't get 19MPG. I think 17 is the average for me but I have it leveled and bigger tires on it. I pull a lot of weight for business sometimes and still don't lose 10MPG

The article implies that, while towing, the vehicle has a range of 190 miles.

That doesn't mean the range has been degraded by 62%, that means 62% of the battery has been used. Unless you think the Rivian has a standard range of 500 miles (It doesn't, that would be incredible)
