He had battled cancer but announced he was cancer free and the announcement says he remained cancer free. So sadly, something else was the cause.
quote:

“It is with immense sadness that the whanau of Sam Neill share the news of his passing on Monday 13th July, in Sydney Australia,” the post read. “Sam was surrounded by family and passed with the dignity that has characterised his whole life. The loss was sudden and unexpected but blessed by the fact that Sam remained cancer free. They would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff at St Vincent’s Private Hospital for their incredible care. More details will be shared later, but for now, on behalf of the family, we ask that you respect their privacy as they navigate this immeasurable loss.”

I said this in the other one, but it’s like I’ve known him as a father figure my entire life. My dad took me to see the original in theaters 7 times when I was 5, and that’s still one of my best memories spending time with my dad. I couldn’t get enough of that original Jurassic Park and one of the reasons I love movies

I didn’t know he was in the next Godzilla so I’m looking forward to that

RIP

I hope he got to see Montana. One of my favorite childhood memories was dad taking me to see The Hunt For Red October

RIP. I hope you see Montana. He was also in 2 of my favorite horror movies, "In the Mouth of Madness" and "Event Horizon". This one hurts.
