One of my favorite childhood memories was dad taking me to see The Hunt For Red October
Saw “Red October” the first showing of the day on the day it was released in NOLA at the Eastlake 8 Theater.

Damn, what a blast from the past. EVERY ONE of those movies showing, and the fact that NONE of the places specified in the ad map are there anymore (the Cinema and Lake Forest Plaza are PHYSICALLY gone, and the Delchamps is "Furniture Mart").

Saw a few movies out there back in the late 80s... Legal Eagles, the Three Amigos, The Fly, Blaze...

Another part of my childhood, always quoted "Dr. Grant says that's a bad idea!"

One of my favorite quotes from him in the JP movies

“Some of the worst things imaginable have been done with the best intentions”

RIP

He played a pretty good role along with Nicole Kidman and Billy Zane in "Dead Calm" too.

RIP Sam Neill

The first time I remember seeing him was in 1989 - Dead Calm - where he played the husband of Nicole Kidman. That was also the first time I'd seen her in anything.

Always great but as youngster I saw him in the Final Conflict and it spooked me enough that it took years for me to see him as someone other than Damien.

That definitely predated Dead Calm, so I have to retract what I said above.

As others mentioned, him as Dr. Weir in Event Horizon was just awesome and terrifying at the same time.

Also, agree with the shout outs for Jurassic Park, Hunt for Red October, and Peaky Blinders. I'll also mention Merlin. Not grand cinema, but a pretty good telling of the Arthurian legend.

Aww man. I will always and forever think of him first in DEAD CALM. And then -Peaky Blinders. What a handsome, engaging cat.

The moments in the first JP when he saw the first dinosaurs are etched in my mind as getting the emotions right.

Thanks to the posters above for mentioning movies I haven't seen, but will.

RIP. He may have been cancer free, but unfortunately, it could still be related to treatment.

He had battled cancer but announced he was cancer free and the announcement says he remained cancer free. So sadly, something else was the cause.

When David Bowie was in his last year, he had 3 heart attacks. Not only is cancer hard on the body, but so is fighting cancer.
