He is wrong about everyone having the same chances. There is opportunity for everyone although some have to work harder to get it.

He's using chances interchangeably with opportunities. They're synonyms.

Richard Sherman has been his own man for a long time...
In 2005, Sherman’s excellence in the classroom was the centerpiece of a profile by Eric Sondheimer of the Los Angeles Times. Compton gained a national reputation as the epicenter of Los Angeles’ gang and crime problems in the 1980s and 1990s, and the state ran the failing school district from 1993 to 2001. Sherman, though, knew he had the ability to excel in the classroom—and that his teammates did too.
“I’m trying my best to get them where I’m going, to the college level,” Sherman told Sondheimer. “I’m helping them study for the SAT. A lot of people come in blind in what they need to know, not knowing one day they could be a top college prospect.”
Sherman talked the talk and walked the walk, telling his teammates to “quit making excuses” for poor academic performance while posting a 4.1 GPA—more than good enough to be accepted into Stanford, the first Dominguez player in over 20 years to be good enough athletically and academically to earn an invite there.

Very true, as a white Hispanics male I have to work harder than my peers to get into medical school because of the color of my skin

He is right about the white or black part though. I do realize some of these kids are born to parents/parent that give them very little chance of succeeding....white and black.

I don't think anyone debates that. But it's also not something only the black population has to deal with. And it's not like the overwhelming majority of white people have any issue with the black population succeeding. There may be some racism and stereotyping issues, but I think if you polled 95% of white America, they actually want the black population to succeed. It's good for everyone. So it's a bold faced lie and detrimental to that sect of society to keep playing this "white man keeping us down" card for everything. There are issues for sure, but leaning on that too hard is just as much of an issue.

By saying everyone has the same chance, Sherman is trying to eliminate the excuses which is the right way to approach it if you are born into poverty, and in this case, black and born into poverty.

Same here. I had white short non athletic parents and had less opportunity to be starting point guard for the LA Lakers. I am not blind to that fact.
