I agree that not everyone has the same footing starting out, but I think the bigger problem with bringing oneself out of poverty cycle is the message that college education equals success.
Why should a kid with a 2.0 in high school be accepted into college where they more than likely won't be successful, incur debt, and lose time that could have been used learning a trade or gaining experience in a different field?
It isn't doing anyone any favors by accepting non-viable students.

I'm hispanic and I've never had any problems at all
Started my own company from scratch and doing really well, at least in my opinion, with it. In todays time, there really isn't any excuses. Every white man I know who made a good career worked his butt off to get there. I haven't had to work any harder in life than any of them and my parents were far, far, from rich.
