Congratulations. I retired a year ago at 58. Best decision I ever made and it’s even better than I had imagined. You’re gonna love it.

Going to be 57 with 10 years left. If all goes well, maybe 7-8 years left. Weird that you can’t wait for it but also knowing you will be almost 70. Been getting a pay check since I was 16. I just pray my health is good and I can enjoy it for awhile.

Been retired 20 years. I tell people if I had known how great retirement is, I would have retired when I was 20.

I did COBRA for a couple months then I went back PRN 1 day a month so I get employee insurance costs and it comes out of that 1 day paycheck

One suggestion. Try to find a purpose.

Number one indicator of men falling off the map that leads to disastrous consequences, especially vets. Not having a purpose. Fishing and shite is an escape that many here use as a cope, but it's not the same. I have a semi-retarded friend that makes really bad decisions, but loves working with Downs kids, and that makes the rest of his shitty life palatable.

I retired about a year ago after 35-year career. I generally liked the work and my coworkers and genuinely thought I would miss it….i don’t miss the grind one bit. Whenever I miss my coworkers, I just have lunch with some of them.

I didn’t realize it but I would start worrying about work on Saturday afternoon every weekend and Sunday was spent dreading work on Monday.

I have never had a single person tell me that they wished that they wished they would have worked longer. I tell everyone as soon as you get financially able, they should not be scared to pull the trigger on retirement immediately.

Now you can drink 5 days a week and sober up for 2.

i retired in 2000 and am busy all week doing something (usually for someone else) and as an added benefit, I gave up drinking tequila.

WTF? That's what turns men into alcoholics, gambling addicts, and suicide candidates. Maybe I'm too focused on vet experiences, but your experience is what? If you don't have a purpose, as a man (I figured you for having somewhat of a backbone,) it depresses the shite out of most, which leads to a lack of respect from women (wives or ex wives), which continues the spiral.
