Retail workers have to take a lot of crap from trashy people.

I'm in the customer service line yesterday at a retail department type store. Two people are in front of me. The first is a middle-aged black woman who decides that the way of resolving her issue is to make personal insults. She starts hurling personal insults, for example, tells the young black employee (e.g. no race issue) to "go find someone intelligent" to handle her complaint. The customer said "I used to be a manager of Walmart (as if that is some indication of high intelligence). The customer really needed some of that Popeye's beatdown action.
The matter gets resolved. The next customer is a trailer trash behemoth who is returning a pair of slacks. They are obviously dirty, damaged and heavily used. The CSR says "we cannot accept that." So, the beefalo calls the company's customer service line, telling that "they won't accept my return because I bought it two months ago." The customer hands the phone to the CSR, who is told to accept the return and they cut her off from telling the true story.
For those who read my story about Myra, the salad bar employee who slapped a woman's hand telling her "bitch, that's enough cheese," you see why these employees sometimes snap.
When we bitch about fast food joints or retail stores, half the problem is the gamut of shitty customers.

It blows my mind that there are millions of people who work retail/grocery stores/fast food for years and years with maybe two weeks off each year. What a bleak lifestyle.

I worked as a retail cashier as teenager in the '90s. Even then, it was unreal how shitty people treat others--even high school kids. I feel a special empathy for people who work in retail.

She said "I'm tired of people."

People like to feel important and in charge. People who don’t feel like that in their professional or personal life are going to try to get that where they can, and often times it’s in situations where they’re the customer. You can also see it in their front yard in the form of a truck parked in the front yard. They don’t have control in their professional life so they break the rules or do what they’re “not supposed” to do anywhere they can get it in.

On top of all of this wealthy folks can be equally as terrible to retail workers

Being shitty to service workers isnt exclusive to race or class.

Same kind of people who mistreat restaurant wait staff and always feel the need to complain about something not up to their standards at restaurants.

Family members have reached a whole new level of audacity. Makes me miss covid when no one was allowed in the unit.
I said what I said.

I miss Covid simply for the lack of people anywhere. Was very pleasant.

There’s a not insignificant portion of people who take out all of their aggression and anger on the people they have any semblance of authority over, i.e., waiters/servers and customer service personnel.

Retail and service industry folks unfortunately have to put up with a lot of shitty people. Business should be allowed to rate customers publicly on Google reviews.
