You are leaving out probably the biggest thing, labor.

Yes that’s the biggest problem, but for small locally owned places the rent/lease situation is just stupid bad. Landlords are going to have to learn to feel some pain.

$7 should be max for an egg sandwich.

I agree with you. The donut shop around the corner charges $5 for a sausage/egg/cheese croissant, which I think is a fair price. I’m just saying there’s far more that factors into the cost of an egg sandwich than just $2.50 for the ingredients.

My guy, there's entire generations of people out here that can't and won't cook for themselves. Go ahead and charge $17 for an egg sandwich.

Yep, car sales prove the cost doesn't matter if someone wants something in today's world.

Because I know the difference between gross profit of an item sold (revenue - cogs) and net profit of a business. The article parts I read were talking about food cost.

Their sales per store are up almost $3 million since the pandemic.

Because they’ve raised the prices to stay in step with inflation.

Because their sales have gone up is merely an indictment of our lazy culture

Why would they name the bill something no one was talking about?

Kind of like the Affordable Care Act?

Affordable health care was the dominant issue at that time. Remember during Bill Clinton’s term Hillary was going to be his health care “Czar”. It was going to be the centerpiece of Bill’s presidency. Of course, Hillary fricked it up, and they came away with nothing. But Obama made another run at it and got something through.

There is no way you can make me believe the price of a fountain soda, made of syrup and carbonated water, could cost anywhere near $3.99-4.99.

I’m just giving an example of it not slowing down. Prices went up. But they stay busy including adding more locations.

They are raking it in selling chicken tenders. It’s also an example of keeping a simple menu.

cook burgers and fries at home.

Then you can easily do it 3-4 times a month for the same cost as one meal at a restaurant, and don't have to worry that you might get food poisoning from some knuckle-dragging idiot handling your food.

And if you are conscious of supporting local farmers, buy your beef from a cattle farmer in your area. The beef is MUCH better quality and tastes better also.

Another thing I didn’t know until I just looked it up is minimum wage is $16.50 in NY.

Say a new sandwich shop opens up in the neighborhood and is paying $17.50. You might have to match that or go to $18 just to have someone making egg sandwiches.

Every restaurant chain uses frozen foods delivered by those food trucks like Sysko.
So, the increased costs isn't because they are using too much quality and dedicated onsite labor

I did not say that. When I said Hillary fricked it up I meant she could not get anything passed. In that sense, Obama clearly did not frick it up, since he got his passed. Now, I do think the law he got through sucked.

3.5% of $4 is a whopping $0.14. We're talking 12 ounces of soda that they're buying in bulk. At $1 for a 12oz can, that's still a 400% markup.

Good thing that 3.5% merchant processing fee is all the business owner has to worry about overhead wise I guess….

Most places need to slash their menus anyway and focus on what they do best.

Came to say the same thing. It's surprising how many small, casual places have huge multi-page menus w/ everything from sandwiches to steaks to seafood.

A lot of places could also trim portion size. I'd eat out more often if I could pay a cheaper price for 1980s or 1990s size burgers and sandwiches instead of paying $20 for a pound of food.

Inflation now is 2.9%. Inflation during Biden era was 21%.
My man, Biden sucked plenty enough in reality. No need for the politard math. Comparing annual and cumulative inflation is like saying your car payment’s cheaper this year because it’s only $1000 and you paid $12,000 last year. He hit 9 something at one point. That's God awful enough on its own.

We’re getting back to the good ole days where the average person couldn’t afford to go out for steak and seafood multiple times a month. The democratization of full service dining has only dragged polite society down.
I for one, am completely behind the current administration’s efforts to make quality out of the reach of poor people.

As a commercial property owner I feel like the customer will get squeezed out before I will.
