But then you have to live in Houston...

For being a smaller town (less than 300k city proper population) Baton Rouge rent is exorbitantly high.

It may be cheaper than what it was. I meant it was still cheap for a big city.
I know people who were living in nice 2 bedroom lofts in midtown for 1k

that is landlords praying on the stupid. 3k goes a long way in Houston unless you are super smug about where you want to live.

Some of those are loaded though with valet and concierge. Others not.

I'm actually pretty surprised Chicago is that high. I was under the impression that it was more like Houston, Dallas, and Atlanta. Also, having lived both places, I find it hard to believe that Chicago is more expensive than Seattle.

Someone is probably going to make a fortune investing in undervalued real estate in the area. It wasn't the best city in America midway through the last century for no reason.
That "reason" left Detroit and isn't coming back.

I would say anywhere from 1600-2k is rent prices in North Dallas.
That gets you a closet in uptown though...

Houston has some of the most affordable rents among large cities, but the price of an average two-bedroom still may be out of reach for many. It takes an annual income of almost $47,000 to afford a two-bedroom apartment priced at $1,088, according to a report by financial website SmartAsset. The numbers are based on how much you'd need to earn so that your rent is no more than 28 percent of your income. The average Houston resident earned just under $26,000, according to U.S. Census data cited by SmartAsset.

1. San Francisco: $179,529
2. New York: $164,614
3. Boston: $135,686
4. Los Angeles: $109,543
5. Washington, D.C.: $103,543
6. Chicago: $96,600
7. Seattle: $87,786
8. Miami: $73,800
9. Philadelphia: $67,371
10. Riverside: $61,329
11. Atlanta: $53,914
12: Dallas: $51,600
13: Houston: $46,629
14: Detroit: $46,586
15. Phoenix: $41,057
Of these cities, only city I'd rather live in Houston over is Dallas.

$103,543 x .28 = 28,992.04/12 = $2416.00 per month.
That may be "average" for DC because there might be some real shitholes out there bringing the average down, but you wouldn't get much of a 2-bedroom apartment in DC for only $2416 a month.

I didn't say a damn word about Boston, moron. Man you're sensitive.
Sorry I think your city sucks.

I don't get it.
All I know is the oil and gas companies headquarter in Houston pay well(probably on average over $110K a year) and I'm going to have to eventually move there.

Nobody wants to live in a 2 bedroom in Atlanta, Dallas or Houston for 1000-1200. They're definitely in mediocre to outright sketchy areas.
You need 2k minimum in Houston to live in a 2 bedroom in a nicer area of Houston. Still cheaper than most big cities.

Detroit ranks #1 in the nation in cities where it is cheaper to buy then rent (65%) cheaper. Guessing no one actually wants to own a house in Detroit, might never be able to sell it.
That is because Detroit has some of the highest property tax in the country. Buying lots there is not a good investment.
