Chicago used to be like Houston. Now every 20 something wants to live there. more so vs when I was living there.
Houston is still redeveloping itself. If some of yall would pull your head out of arse about messicans/cultcha/low oil prices, you will see that Houston is definitely on the rise in a lot of different ways.
although we are an endless highway construction project.

jesus. frick that.
It's tech money. If you work for Apple, google, etc. your salary can easily support the rental prices in the area.
Same thing if your a financial guy in New York.
If your a hillbilly in West Virginia it's obviously not feasible to pick up and move to some of these cities, but let's not act like there aren't people that can afford it.

Houston is not cheaper than BR. To rent in comparable areas, Houston is more expensive. I could live anywhere in BR for what I'm paying in Houston. And I still have to deal with carpet and Formica countertops. Granted, I live right on Buffalo Bayou.

This is partially true, but not entirely.
I work with a company out in SF that is very successful in its field (I'm not saying it's google successful, but it's a really good company). They were telling me how some of their sales guys live in San Diego and fly to SF on Monday, stay in a hotel, and fly back home for the weekends on Thursdays, simply because it's more affordable.
That blew my mind.
