Conroe is far from Houston. Don’t do that if you plan on commuting into the city.

I have no idea why anyone would pick LA or MS over TX.
Too many people, private schools too expensive, etc

I think it's pretty cheap to live in TX, only thing that's too steep is property taxe, imo

Texas... no state income tax,

Nah, this job is too nice. Unless I'm doing research or site visits, I simply have to answer emails on my phone. I don't even turn on a computer most days.

Tomball,The Woodlands, Friendswood, Katy, Clear Lake, Magnolia (there's a pretty good chance a huge bulk of your business will be near Houston since there's 8 million people there).

since we don't have a sarcasm emoji I'm guessing that's what this is

That would depend on the state and schools.
The only place in those 3 states you won’t be at private school is burbs of the big cities in Texas.

And take all the typical bitching about "Texas" property taxes with a grain of salt. Houston is worse than DFW, because of the use of MUDs (Municipal Utility Districts, which take out bonds to pay for infrastructure). That said, you can literally live on different sides of a street, one side the property taxes may be 2.1%, and the other side of the street may be 3.51%.
Avoid Fort Bend County (west Houston). The last two assessors (over 15 years) are complete and utter thieves; up by the state max (10%) every year, recessions, oil crashes be damned. DFW gets icy a lot, and has ridiculous winds, but they do a better job of building sports complexes, etc., than Houston does by a damn fair bit (I have no idea about Conroe).
And don't forget, there's a SWA flight between Dallas and Houston every 30 minutes if you need it.

Lots of info lacking but my .02
Texas has lots of good options.
If Louisiana- Mandeville, Covington, obviously Slidell. Madisonville is nice but has some traffic issues.
Mississippi- I don’t recommend.
Alabama- Baldwin county is fantastic place.
I think Texas wins out over all tho.

My property taxes + insurance premiums are substantially less than Louisiana property taxes + insurance premiums + state income tax.
And I don't have to pay for private schools.
That talking point is dead in the water now with increasing taxes in Louisiana and off the charts insurance premiums.

Don't listen to this. West St. Tammany is hell on Earth. It is a crime-ridden drug-filled cesspool of despair. No one should ever move here. Ever.

Have you considered the Texas Golden Triangle of Beaumont/Orange/Port Arthur? Right on the coast, and not too far from Holly Beach.

Have lived in Merritt Island, FL, Wake Forest, NC, Slidell, LA, and Katy, TX. Enjoyed all of 'em. FL and NC won't come into play for you.
Slidell gets (so wrongfully) scorned on here but it was a great place to raise kids (20 years ago). And hard to beat if you like inshore fishing.
The MS Coast seems pretty nice but I've never lived there.
Houston area is growing beyond words. Most of the petro-chemical industries are on the east side of town and not as nice as elsewhere. Lot of options if you like people. Lots of people.
Some areas to consider that haven't been mentioned:
Mont Belvieu, TX (MM 800 on I-10)
Lafayette, LA (very underrated place)
Best wishes and God bless to you and your family.
ETA: if groceries are a thing then you should visit an HEB in TX before deciding.
