Seriously check out mid city, bayou St. John area. Maybe the Jesuit neighborhood or even over towards esplanade.

Sorry to hear that. Can't wait until I can get out of this shithole.

Where do you live?

StoneBridge, Gretna or Harvey side

35. Married. No kids.
Good urban and suburban areas and some horrible ones.
Y'all will probably have to be a two car family. All commute times given are private not public transport.
If wife's biological clock is ticking and y'all will be here 7-10+ years. Look into public and parochial school districts as well as distance from private schools. Most schools are cesspools!

Bay St Louis ... The commute down old Hwy 90 is nice.
Do you commute that daily? Now I don't feel so bad driving in from Venetian Isles.
OP - I would chose Lakeview, but I doubt there is anything near $1300ish. In Mid city you could get a 2/3 br shotgun for that.

If you don't mind driving a bit (depending on where you're working). Metairie/Kenner line near Airline Park area isn't bad and houses are affordable. But the whole thing is built on a swamp so...

On Trulia the crime map is really helpful FWIW. I used that and cross referenced with the NOPD website when we were looking for our new place.

Congrats on the move to NOLA. It is an awesome place to live. The talent level in NOLA these days is mind boggling.
So....Ditch the wife.

If I were in your position I would look at Mid City. Lots of new restaurants opening up along Carrollton and Tulane corridor. New hospital district and Lafitte Greenway is changing the neighborhood but it still has an authentic NOLA feel to it with interesting people. Most areas you can easily walk to a neighborhood bar or restaurant. 15 minutes from CBD and you won't have to take the interstate.

Like someone else said, just live in metairie

It doesn't have to be within the city itself.
Commute to Orleans Parish...don't live in it. Look for a place in Jefferson Parish, either old Gretna or Metairie.

Anywhere but NOLA. I would suggest North Shore in St. Tammany

Uptown near Tulane, Warehouse District or Metairie. Lakeview isn't bad either.

Belle Chasse or River Ridge. You're welcome.

Northshore for sure...Madisonville, Covington, Mandeville, Abita Springs...etc
