Eh.

Quieter place then I would say MidCity/CityPark/Lakeview/Lake Vista/Vista Park/Bayou St John

downtown in Nola means down river which is usually the 9thward/bywater fwiw

Central Business District is what you would call it. Telling some folks you're headed 'downtown' they will look at you funny and ask what drugs you going pick up

I'd say somewhere in the 10th or 11th Ward on the river side of St Charles. Depending on what side of the CBD your work will be on for the easiest 5-10min commute.

Mid city is an option, the route down canal is a breeze in the morning

yeah MidCity is a great option, especially some pockets of it.

Honestly I live all the way near the lake and it only takes my wife about 20 minutes to get downtown most days.

WEll what side?

Honestly nothing in Nola is actually 'far from' the CBD, it's all relative.

But if you are working on the fq side of the CBD it would be easier to live in the marigny or mid city, you see

If walk-ability isn't a concern, then maybe Lakeview would work for you. Kinda depends on the type of lifestyle that you want. Lakeview is more of a suburban feel, IMO.

Seriously, come look at Bay St Louis at least once. Your family will LOVE it. The commute down old Hwy 90 is nice.
It's also 1 hr and 15min away. Without traffic.

Yeah, you could check out Bay St Louis. Or you could just live in Lakeview and be in the city and an hour closer.

Lived there back before the storm before the area was completely gentrified. Now it has everything you want in the area.

Taking old 90 isn't that far. I was under 50 minutes to NASA (door to turnstyle), great drive too, albeit in NO East.

Depends on what they want. I thought he may have small children when I said his family would love it.

I still look for jobs in NOLA, that commute isn't a deal breaker for me. I've commuted to Stennis from Mid City as well.

You can look around Bayou St. John or some of the areas down Esplanade. I live near there and I ride by bike to work in the CBD sometimes. It's faster on bike than it is to drive my car and park and walk.

The area is pretty nice and it's pretty convenient.

There used to be a great map of the city floating around on here that had the areas/neighborhoods color coded and labeled with their "culture" level. It was pretty handy.

rent a house in uptown. It's awesome to live there but if you are going to buy a house it will cost you. If you rent and try it out..no big deal. If you want an experience more similar to other downtowns in the US, CBD is where you need to go.
Bywater and Marigny prolly too dangerous for your description...Lakeview - just as soon save money and go live in Metairie

It's on the FQ side. Sorry I don't know that much about N.O. despite being from Louisiana.
