Freezing up and backing off happened probably involuntarily..based on his believable account, he essentially zoned out

Which has happened to many soldiers in combat. Doesn't make them less of a person, but obviously they were not made for the job. Its just sad that so many people had to lose their lives for this officer to figure that out.

You fricking go in, frick the people that will come in here saying, "you've never been in that situation" The worst case scenario in that is I die a hero and will be remembered far more so than if I pass on a bed at the age of 80 years old shitting myself.

You fricking go in

What would Blane Salamoni have done?

Fine line between hero and heel.

He was probabaly scared he would get fired for police brutality if the guy was a minority.

ure he was probably worried the door was boobie trapped, and he was absolutely right to be worried about that. But that's his job

So what you're saying is not matter the situation, if he has to give his life, he should do so because that's his job?

So one was an actual police officer while another one was a trainee and the others were security guards. It's not like it was the SWAT team just hanging out. The veteran LEO should have taken more initiative but it's hard to blame security guards for not going rambo in there.

I think that was radio traffic telling men responding and on the scene below to take cover. Not Floor 31

no clear direction given in the story..they did eventually wait on SWAT, but it doesn't say if they were directed to wait

Ha, that dude would have tackled the shooter out the window. I agree, and you can't have a perfect person every time. But he's exactly the type of person that was needed in this situation.

Were these those first officers to respond?

I remember someone telling them NOT to engage that night. At least I think that's what I remember.

Blaine was like some of the Dallas officers. Pretty determined to take out a bad guy.

Other people who are expected to knowingly risk their lives for the greater good can judge these guys.

I respectfully decline to.

I could maybe understand 1-3 minutes, but, holy shite, 15 minutes? That seems way too long to me. Then again, I have no idea what I would do standing outside a door hearing automatic fire. Those in glass houses...

Still seems like there should be some kind of punishment for this. They’re paid to do a dangerous job and they failed.

While I think you are over selling this guy, someone who would have handled the situation and then later worried about being fired versus someone who was worried about retirement, is hard to find these days

I'm sure everyone calling these guys cowards would have just busted in there with their little semi automatic pistol with no fear at all hearing a fully automatic AR15 going off in that room.
