Video is in the link.

quote:

An armed, veteran police officer stood idle for several minutes last October as the Las Vegas gunman slaughtered dozens of concertgoers from a perch one floor up, and now that cop's actions -- and inaction -- are being reviewed by the Metropolitan Police Department.

quote:

Video footage showed Hendrex leading a police trainee and three Mandalay Bay security guards to the sounds of gunfire coming from the hotel’s 32nd floor, where Stephen Paddock set up his sniper post, but not confronting the shooter.

quote:

The video footage, captured by the body camera of Las Vegas Officer Elif Varsin, then shows the group standing in the hallway for about two minutes before taking refuge in a stairwell heading up to the 32nd floor for around 15 minutes, at which point the clip ends.

Maybe not, but I'm pretty sure I know what he was trained to do. And it wasn't to let this guy slaughter people while he hid in the stairs.

My first thought was "well I sure wouldn't have wanted to go in there either", but then I remembered I'm just a random dude and not a trained officer whose job it is to do exactly that. Yeah it would suck knowing your life could potentially end in a minute or 2 but I mean that's literally the dude's job and what he is trained for.

You've got pretty good odds when there are four of you rushing someone with a rifle..I get the hesitation, but 15 minutes is literally lifetimes

I'd like to call them cowards but honestly, I can't say I wouldn't do the same.

That a-hole was firing hundreds of rounds from multiple guns. The cops are just humans.

but police should be the only ones allowed to possess guns. Got a problem? Well, just call them up.

Training doesn’t mean dick when you’re faced with overcoming your natural instincts. Some people can, some can’t. End of story.

The army has been trying forever to be able to screen those going in for how they will react in life or death situations and it’s absolutely impossible.

You can have Rambo in training but when shite hits the fan, he caves like a 10 year old girl.

It sucks. But it is what it is. You never know what you’re really made of until you’re in that position.

I’d love to say I’d have the balls to do what those cops failed to do, but who the frick knows unless I’m actually put in that situation.

Not sure how logic gets downvoted

Well, he did have a rifle pointed at the door from the side. Was definitely ready to ambush the cops

One more thing you need to think about, where are these people trained?? Did they get training or a one day seminar. Did they get in because they knew someone??? Most of these guys know somebody and they get hired. We are a little bedroom community, we got a lot of Police but half of them are related and the half knew someone!!

great comment that easily relates to BR/DS/Surrounding areas

Part of me says stack up on the door and kill that mother fricker. Another part says that I can’t really pass judgment since I have no idea how I would have responded to that. But when you are trusted with the protection of others, you fricking go.

Honest question: is that what he is trained to do? Or is that more of a SWAT type of deal?
