The mental gymnastics this board goes thru to defend cops is amazing. When they frick up and shoot an innocent person it's "you can't possibly understand the pressure these brave men and women go thru risking their lives everyday to protect you." Then when they frick up by doing nothing it's "hey, it's not their job to risk their lives just to protect you."

Holy. fricking. shite.

I'm not taking a position one way or another on this because I don't know all the details of the situation, dept policy, tactical protocol, etc. I'm just saying that they're under no legal obligation to protect or serve. That's all.

Maybe a moral obligation?

Well, I'm sure it's department policy that they have to act (not talking about LVPD specifically) in certain situations. They can get fired from the dept for violating those policies/protocols/SOPs, but they can't be held legally responsible.

I love all this call-of-duty tactical training be spouted on the OT today. That is such horse shite. You do not fire a gun at what you basically have no knowledge of or cannot see. I mean, if you want to fault the cop for not going into the door, that is one thing, but to criticize him for not throwing blind gun shots into a room is simply stupid.

What a crock of nonsense, four armed men being paid to protect the public hid in a stairwell while a man was raining lead down on a concert.

Perhaps you should petition for him to recieve the medal of freedom, he did all that was humanly possible.

Of what possible use is an armed police force police if this is the desired outcome?

Well I wasn't necessarily replying to your comments, it was just easier to hit the reply button on the last post for me to make a general statement about the general direction this thread has taken.

Him blaring in against automatic fire and who knows how many shooters like Rambo with a girl on her second day and 2 security guards likely only ends with 4 more deaths and no one there to contain the guy. It’s an absolutely awful situation.

Even one person distracting the shooter would have saved lives on the ground. The officer swore an oath to defend the state against enemies foreign and domestic. His inaction resulted in more lives lost. You can bet your arse if 3-4 people would have distracted the shooter, more than 4 lives would have been saved.

We have a choice...are we going to be a society that protects, shields, and apologizes for cowardice in the face of duty or are we going to be a society that doesnt put up with cowardice from those whose paid job it is to protect the public.

There is a social contract the people have made with the government: we wont carry guns around to defend ourselves BUT the government must provide a reasonable amount of protection in return. A government who refuses to be accountable for its end of this social contract but enforces the restrictions on the public is tyrannical.

The guy in the video is one of the ten. He never should have frozen up like that. Securing the scene and waiting for backup is NOT the proper procedure. Ever since Columbine, police have been taught it is their job to move to the sound of gunfire and engage with the shooter. This is what keeps the shooter from continuing to kill. This officer failed in that and his inaction, as the Senior Officer on scene, led others to stand around as well. Unacceptable.

BeerJeep just thinks he needs a safe space to think things over...no punishment. No... immediate termination is absolutely necessary to restore any credibility with the public. Allowing him to stay on sends the message that they allow their officers to breach their sworn duty...as long as they are scared...with no consequence

My bitch arse wouldn’t go in there either.

But I also wouldn’t want to be a cop.

They really need to start police officers off at around $85k-$100k depending on location.

Attract better candidates and save on all the law suits.

If five ex military were outside that dudes door then there would have probably been a different outcome.

I am stunned at the number of people on here defending this guys decision to do nothing.

I haven't read the whole thread but the bit I have read would not make me call it defense. I think a few of us, including myself, are aware of the gravity of the situation. I get being scared as hell and can see how this would happen.
