Thats golden. If possible every RESPONSIBLE parent should open a cc for their kids. Use it for things related to that kid as a part of organizing finances.

Only thing that sux is that kid cant ever close that cc. I have "help college kids" cc that is my oldest. Has a low limit that I have to remember to pay every month. But worth it.

Subtle brag I got an 840 credit score thread.

Why do people think having a high credit score is a brag?

All it means is that the credit bureaus have decided that you are someone who is good at paying off debt, which implies you are also good at getting into debt.

Millionaires with no loans and minimal credit usage have average scores. Do they give a frick? They know a credit score is a dumb thing to brag about.

Sounds like you have a limited credit history. You can have a high score, but if your lending history is relatively shallow, it can be tough to get approved.

This. They want a variety of credit lines and a great pay history with all of them

Buddy of mine thought he was doing great with a high credit score he had built up with a credit card he got in high school, goes to buy a house and they give him nowhere near what he expected and then his credit drops 100 points from the inquiries the home search put on his credit.

ust got rejected for a credit card with Bank of America. The reasons listed in the letter were: credit score of 840, too many inquiries on your credit file, limited deposit and/or investment balances with us, length of time your account with us has been open.

First time I have been rejected for a card and my credit has never been higher. Anyone have a similar experience?

My AMEX says "member since 1984" on it. I was 6 years old that year. I don't know how they don't have a simple algorithm to catch that. I don't correct it because it shows that I have 34 years of good credit history

Yeah mine says member since 2007 and I got it in 2015. I guess my parents authorized me as a user back then but I don’t think I ever used a card.

Well I am 68, no debt, no mortgage and my score is 832.

One way to get a cc easily is to join Costco.

The 2 worst big banks in America - Wells Fargo and Bank of America.

Suggest you try Chase.

All opinions are based solely on my experiences. I don't care if you like it or not. When you get into your 60's, you get tired of being careful with what you say. Now I just say wht is on my mind and IDGAF as to your opinion.

Recently got a Discover It for cash back and Southwest card for 40,000 points (which is a hell of a deal). Thanks.
So why do you need another credit card?

Are you saying Amex is not a credit card? I’ve had one going on 30 years.
