Might be one of those out of 950 scores.

I had an 840 but was offered two 460s for it and snagged the 80 point upgrade.

I'm working my way to a credit score of 0. I want to be cash only.

If you’ve applied for and received too mny cards in a certain period of time you’re an automatic denial despite your score.
Thinking that must be it. Recently got a Discover It for cash back and Southwest card for 40,000 points (which is a hell of a deal). Thanks.

Why would you doubt that?
If you take care of your business and pay your bills you will have a great credit score. Last time I checked mine about 6 months ago it was 850
Extremely few people have a score that high and it’s difficult to maintain that score if you actually use your credit. Mine was 819 three months ago, then I opened one card at JCPenney just to get a $90 discount off my $400 purchase, and that alone dropped my score to around 760.

Back in the day, I was approved for a AMEX Gold card but turned down by Discover at around the same time.

Unfortunately, they are the bank for the Alaska Airlines card.

You’ve collected a lot of shitty credit cards.

I have a high credit score but ultimately it is a reward for high debt

Having a high credit score only indicates what an obedient whore you are to the banks.
I bet Warren Buffet's credit score is low.

Yeah, something like 57% of the US has a score above 700. However, you definitely don't want a terrible score.

If there are lots of inquiries within a certain amount of days banks think your trying to load up then file bankruptcy. If not, your file may be thin, meaning you just don't use it enough to show significant payment histories. Being an OT baller you probably just buy everything with suitcases of cash.

Spoken like someone with shitty credit "because I always use cash."

Couple of things I see there....first off, you greatly improved your chances by having a savings account with whoever the card is from....if that's even an option, in this case it is. Secondly, try to keep your inquiry period to less than 30 days...they consider that shopping around. Once you exceed that, it can cause a bump in your credit report. Lastly, if you're ex military, work for government, or belong to anything that might have a bank associated with it, check there. Example: Navy Federal, department of interior federal, etc...all credit unions.
