I dumped them years ago so I don't know about now but historically no, it was not, sort of a voucher for your good credit but whatever you charged on it was due in full on each statement, could not carry a balance

Subtle "high credit score, low income, negative net worth" brag

I think technically it's a "charge card"...that said, with enough history you can carry a balance over to the next month like a CC...with a fee, of course.

I purchase and pay for everything I can with Amex for the points. I also like the fact it generally needs to be paid in full. Keeps me from spending money I don’t have.
I only have 2 credit cards. An Amex and a card for places that don’t accept Amex.

back in the day, no could do, I used to carry it just because I go out of the country for work several times a month and it was taken just about everywhere and would never be refused, over the years I've found it just wasn't necessary for me anymore

All it means is that the credit bureaus have decided that you are someone who is good at paying off debt, which implies you are also good at getting into debt.
Not really. I use my CC for all purchases because I’m throwing away free money otherwise. Sure, it’s technically debt but it’s within my means and i pay in full, easily, every month.

Thanks to this thread, I just went and got another card. Having a 797 is nice.

Bank of America is a shitty bank anyway. Consider yourself lucky.
I had a credit card with them once, and always payed my bill in full and on time for over 15 years. Never had a late fee.
They began sending a little note in the bill (snail mail, I know, I'm old) asking for me to update my household income (everyone in the households total). I ignored it for about 3 months, but continued full, on time payments.
I'm at a gas station one day and swipe the card. Card reader says theres a problem. I go inside and the clerk swipes the card and says it declined.
I was pissed, and called the number on the back of the card and talked to a customer support person who said "Oh, I see why it was declined. We want you to update your total household income figure".
Seeing as how they had all that when I applied for the card originally, I told her to delete the fricking account and I would go to another bank for a card. Best thing I ever did. No other bank has ever pulled that crap with me on an existing card in excellent standing.

Spoken like someone with shitty credit "because I always use cash."
I never said that, genius. Based on what you said above, I would infer that you are borrowed to the hilt, have no savings and wonder why you live paycheck to paycheck.
