A group of guys should start their own fraternity house off campus. Course you wouldn’t be sanctioned by LSU or a National but who gives a frick anyway. Hang some greek letters up and wala!
Some folks tried to do that in the Garden District back around 2015. It didn't go well with their neighbors.

Dude in the 80s early 90s you could pull a beer truck up in the front yard of the house for parties and we did on the regular. In addition to impromptu TGIFs which meant pulling the couches out in the yard, getting a few kegs, throwing the football/frisbee around and waiting on the female of the species to drop by. It was all about the house as the focal point back then. Since the university has seriously restricted what you can do in the house, all of that is gone.
This. Catering Kegs would drop off a truck or trailer of kegs and you could have a band in the yard or on the porch. Got tired of listening to Better than Ezra because the played pretty regularly at our house late 80s/eqarly 90s. South Seas was still a thing and bid night was epic.
But the greeks didn't do themselves any favors either. Ben Wynn being the first I remember to drink himself to death and start the ball rolling downhill. We had a few fern worms back in the day, but it seems like I heard about much harder drugs becoming commonplace in the 2000s which only accelerated the LSU admins anger towards greeks. Bud Ritchey leaving and Kathy Marcel taking over was the beginning of the end.

Bid night in the late 80s was a helluva time. We weren’t “allowed” to join frats but were invited by several of them including Kappa Sig, Sigma Chi, etc. to damn near every party.
Good times and no hate that way. Was an enriching experience:)

in short, it was just good, clean fun had by all.
You sure?
I heard tell of a whole lot of date raping happening back then.
And still now, actually.

That is not a good thing for your school’s culture. It was cheesy AF when I was in school and has been ever since. I was preppy in high school, sure as frick didn’t want to do that in college.
My son dated a girl who is rushing this fall at Alabama. She had a self proclaimed shopping addiction and has had so much work done it’s mind boggling. She’s going to be some hot shite girl no doubt, but frick all that.
Its just another group on campus. I do agree all of these girls getting work done is dumb, but some of them just so happen to be in a sorority so I don't think one has anything to do with the other. And yes the stereotypically frat dude or sorrotity girl sucks, but I think its part of college.

Can you explain to us non greek life folks what kind of shite they were allowed to do in the 80's that they can't do now?
Hazing and hell week.

Agreed, I went to LSU in the 90’s and the Greeks never bothered me.
Lived on Chimes across the street from the SAE house when Wynne passed away, and the heard about fights at Murphy’s…but in general I thought they were funny on game day and that’s it.
Not many in my physics and engineering classes.

This was all of college...what changed is that students then parents started to demand to be "safe." the schools obliged and sold safety as good management of the university. "Look you can trust us with your kid." The reality is, they use to treat 18 year olds more like adults. There is no greater fascism than the fascism of protecting people and keeping them safe. No bottom to that well

Dumb place to have one. You need some land and zoned rural. Down river road a bit would be perfect.

Someone told me a sorority moved into the DKE house at LSU. Is that really true?

Pledged in 94 and left LSU in 01 after undergrad and grad school. Greek life was a blast and wild AF. They started putting clamps down after Wynn death in 97, but the parties and hazing continued on. We had the longest pledgeship on campus...late August- mid February. IT was the best and worst of times
I made great lifelong friends from all over the state as the shared experience made us tight.
I wouldn't trade my time at LSU for anything. Literally the time of my life and fraternity was a giant part of that experience. My time at LSU would be unrecognizable to me without it.
