The personal-finance website WalletHub has just announced its annual ranking of the best airlines. The study evaluates the nine largest national airlines in the United States and one regional carrier across a range of criteria, including reliability, safety, comfort and overall service quality, providing travelers with valuable insights to inform their decision-making process.

According to WalletHub, airline ticket prices had dropped significantly in 2023, but are back on the rise. However, costs are only part of the story. “WalletHub’s airline report is unique because it evaluates airlines beyond just ticket prices,” WalletHub analyst Cassandra Happe told me in an interview. “While many reports prioritize affordability, WalletHub takes into account a wider range of factors that are important to travelers, such as comfort, safety, and overall service quality.” Compare this year’s list to 2023’s list of best airlines.

To rank the airlines for 2024, WalletHub analyzed flight data from the U.S. Department of Transportation and using a strategic methodology that compared key metrics, including cancellation, delays, baggage mishaps and in-flight comfort.

I know people hate them but if you take the time to read all the rules once spirit is a good airline.

Has Spirit had a major shift for the positive since I last flew them a few years ago? My experience wasn’t terrible, but they don’t exactly have a reputation as a top 3 airline.

As long as you have an aisle and not a window, Alaska is great.

I was stunned, too

Never flown them, but they suck.

They all do, really.

Surprised by Hawaiian, and Southwest. Hawaiian is always on time because they have a bit of a weather advantage.

I think the floor collapsed under several of the others and spirit just already was bad so it lost less in the decline

The problem with Spirit is it is a very trashy crowd that flies spirit. You can always tell when you are walking past the spirit gates because of how trashy everyone becomes

Southwest at 10 is funny because of all the people who are obsessed with flying Southwest. I won't ever fly Southwest again until they join the modern times and get rid of their absurd boarding process

Someone at Delta is reading these articles. For the last two months, their customer service has gone back to pre-COVID actual levels of service. Pilots and flight attendants taking time to talk to and thank customers. Gate agents recognizing me for my status and giving me drink coupons. It's weird how it's all of a sudden. Like someone threatened their jobs or something.

I wonder if the Southwest pilot scheduling calamity caused this ranking.

Spirit doesn't even deserve to be ranked at all
