My oldest daughter is 2 and a couple months. It’s so much fun man. Her and her sister are the best.

I was terrified of having a daughter. I'm so happy I have a son. My only sibling is a guy. Most of my cousins are boys. I guess my family shot a lot of Y chromosomes.

I wouldn't know what to do with a daughter, but I'm comfortable raising a boy. I think the responsibility of being entrusted to raise any child is precious. Kiddo is 11-1/2 and starting the emotional rolller coaster of puberty (gulp). He's still a great kid!

Be a Dad/Father, not a “best friend”. Teach her to be strong, smart and to demand respect. Spend as much time as possible doing things with her. Coach something for her, travel, get into nature, experience what you both can like together and what she likes. Enjoy!

Just wait until you have to dance with her at her wedding. The bittersweet emotions are overwhelming, or at least they were to me

I've said here before that I expected to have boys to do the sports thing, but had an exceptional daughter instead. I've mentioned a couple funny episodes, and sometimes I am tempted to relate some of the surreal happenings, but surely would be downvoted to hell.

In hindsight it was by far the best thing to ever happen in my life and gave me incredible satisfaction, insight and entertainment. Wish you guys the same, except for those teen 6 months when she didn't speak to me. Mentally she had been an adult long before then, but emotionally she was still on the chronologic track.

OP, the very best thing you can do at her age is to read with her every night at bedtime. Mine was reading on her own by age 3.

Saddest part of being a parent is that you don’t get to keep them. You love them more than life itself, and if you did your job right, they leave.

Soak it in, it goes by too fast

9-11 is peak daughter time before hormones kick in. Prioritize those years and all the long hugs and laughs. Hormones hit earlier these days and completely changes personality almost overnight. My experience with this is 3 daughters in case you want to ask how I know.

Just wait. They are the best and most frustrating things in life.

You get 12 GREAT years. And then the change hits and they can be little moody monsters and you aren't cool anymore and they don't run up to you and hug you.

But it's not so bad.

I’ve got two, one born in the late 80s and the other born in the late 90s. (No pics)

Both wonderful and sharp.

They’ve both made great choices, I’ve never been publicly or privately embarrassed by anything they’ve said or done.

I am fortunate; married good, stayed engaged with my family and never relocated.

The relationship has to evolve, they are adults now. I get to kinda be their friend now.

It sucks bad. They are so emotional when they turn 12/13. It’s mind blowing.

I’ve got a 5 year old girl and a 3 year old son. It’s funny how different little girls and little boys are.

I work in a field where the big money is on the road. I’ve stayed home just so I can spend time with her (7). We have dinner on Wednesday, no phones just talking. It amazes me what goes through her little mind.

My daughter just turned 23 and its an emotional roller coaster but it will all work out.

When I divorced her mother she never took a side and loves me more now than she did before the drama of her mother.

Enjoy the ride because its not that bad.

P.S.
Grandkids are the best.
