The signal reportedly shifted slightly while it was being observed, in a way that resembled the shift caused by the movement of a planet.

The signal was possibly sent 4 years ago. My guess is Uptown Funk. You couldn't get away from that fricking song 4 years ago.

Probably a stupid question, but how long does it take radio waves (in space) to travel 4.2 light years?

Who ever that poor bastard alien was that was broadcasting uncloaked is probably already thrown in alien jail.

4.2 years. They are moving at the speed of light.

Depending on the tech used by these aliens, could be faster than the speed of light.

Could be a stupider question by me, but could this be radio waves that we sent out, bouncing off an object and back to us?

Side note, I don’t know how radio waves work.

Radio signal? I’d expect an advanced race to at least have a MP3 player!

You ever thought about how many radios you use every day?

Car radio, obvious.
Sirius/XM
TV
Key fob for your car
TV/cable remotes are split between radio and UV light depending on the model. If you have a newer TV, there's a good chance you have a radio remote.
Playstation/Xbox/Switch controllers
Every single Bluetoof device
Every single Wi-fi device
Cellphones
RFID tags/fobs
GPS
ApplePay and similar tech
The Touch to pay tech in your credit card

There's way more, but I tire of this game.

I will believe aliens are real when I see them with my own eyes. Until that happens, I think it’s all a bunch of BS

Which makes this "discovery" highly unlikely. It is extremely unlikely a detectable light wave could be sent to us from another star system that we could actually monitor.

That would be like us being able to send out a light wave that is stronger than the light waves sent out by our sun. If we could even create a signal that strong, it alone, would have to destroy our solar system let alone our planet and us.

Only detectable signals we can hope for must come from our own system or empty space.
