idk much bout private schools, but U-High has a much more stacked team then catholic. Ive also heard snobby people. but so does catholic.

If your son is black and you run into any problems. Check into the desegregation settlements in the Parish. I know here in Tangipahoa Parish a black kid can attend any school they want to. Attendance zones do not apply to them. Something about not enough black kids in some schools so they are allowed to transfer and attend them schools with no penalty. This was put in place by a federal judge.

I am pretty sure you can go to a public school from a private school without having to sit out, but if there is a chance that the private school has a case that the public school recruited them then it could get ugly.

It happened to that kid from Vanderbilt Catholic who was going to go play for Hahnville this year.

Didn't U-High win the Division II state title this year and last year? I see Catholic was runner up in the Division I championship.

For instance my son lived in the Woodlawn zone. That meant he could go to Parkview or St Michael and stay in his zone. But if he wanted to go to CHS he would not be eligible for varsity unless he sat out a year.

But if your son was going to CHS, coming from the 8th grade from a catholic elementary school (say MBS or SJV for example), wouldn’t he be eligible to play his first year?

I believe they recognize Catholic schools as feeder schools of CHS.
So I believe the answer is yes. But to be sure have LHSAA confirm.

Lol..you are an idiot...i just showed why that is not the case...you can move to the east side of Acadian and be one tenth of a mile from CHS, but not be in the attendance zone...the maps are any thing but normal shapes, they are GerryMandered essentially

Starting a new HS as a junior would be awkward socially, imho. Unless he is unhappy with all facets of the current high school (and not just where he is on the football team depth chart), I wouldn’t recommend it.

You have . . . five children . . . all in private schools?

If you and your husband can keep up with all that, AND have the energy and time to put one of them in a football program with all the chasing-around that is going to require, you ought to be able to send your kid to any school you want to. You guys are my heroes.
this, this and all of this. berrycajun is not only good people but a Saint. the running around with sports and practices is hard enough.

If you move into zone you’re damn near eligible every time. If y’all still keep the old house up and running with bills in your name and all that jazz they can do a ruling and could not go your way.

There’s a ton of bad advice, or just misinformation in this thread. First, calling LHSAA won’t do any good for you. They won’t take your call, and won’t tell you anything if they do. School administrators and ADs are the only ones who can communicate with them. For the purpose of this thread, and as far as your kid transferring, he will only be eligible if you made a bonafide move into the new attendance zone from another. You can not just transfer somewhere else and be eligible, regardless of where you live. School of first choice is the only school he is eligible for immediately, unless you get administrative transfers from both schools. Those are very rare. A kid is eligible upon entering 9th grade at a new school (school of first choice) provided he didn’t participate in any varsity athletics prior to that year.

Basically, you’re not going to transfer from catholic to parkview or u high and be eligible immediately. Not happening.

Did you ask this question on the More Sports Board? There are a couple guys over there who know their stuff.

The whole argy-bargy over Drew Robison transferring from Vandebilt to Hahnville was because it was not a bonafide move, they did not move out of their home in Terrebonne Parish, even though they rented a domicile in St. Charles Parish. If he leaves now, unless you can get a hardship transfer, according to choupiquesushi, he will still be ineligible in 2019.

Is it worth losing a year of football?

Now that I think about it ...uhigh and Chs are both in McKinley’s zone, so uhigh is definitely not an option to avoid sitting out.

Parkview plays in District 6-4A, which has been one by Plaquemine High (the team I follow) the last 3 out of 4 years. They play in Division II playoffs (public and private schools have separate classifications) and I think PV might have won the first playoff game)..

U-High beat Catholic this year pretty good. U-High beat St Thomas Moore in the state title game, whose only loss on the year was to Catholic High, U-High had 5 or 6 kids sign scholarships to D1 schools and I think they have a strong team coming back.

A friend of mine who goes to all the state title games every year, whose opinion I would take more serious than others.. I guess I would say, told me that U-High was the most impressive team playing in the state title games.

And he watched John Curtis beat Catholic.. So...

Not sure if that helps, but..

I certainly didn’t. I didn’t pose the question. I’m a high school coach, though, so I’m fairly positive in my response, as I’ve been through it thoroughly.

That’s really not what the problem was there. First, his father is a faculty coach, and as such, would be eligible at whatever school he went to regardless of whether they moved or not. The bigger issue was perceived recruiting, since he was pictured on the cover of a magazine with a hahnville jersey before he was ever enrolled at school there. A bunch of he said she said crap, and you had a kid ruled ineligible because people got their feeling’s hurt.
